The headache build..

Well Avery, I don't think I'm going to get it going by winter break. Laziness and lack of funds have prevented me from working on the Blazer.

Thats ok my mom is being difficult and won't let me drive home for Christmas which means I don't have a tow rig which means I can't tow my rig to Oceano which means my plans are shot :doah: Catch all that? haha

But it does mean I'll just pull it into the driveway and tear it apart... :D

So you're going to work on your truck on break huh? In that case I should tear my rig down to the frame and start over.

If I do that my brother and nephew would kill me because they think I'm almost done.:deal: They want me to get done so we could have some fun.

haha yeah I guess... the plans have changed drastically over the past month or so...
I desperately need to re-work the suspension and since I won't have my tow rig I might as well tear it apart...

Well, I haven’t gotten much done lately even though I had the nothing to do the last couple of days. But, I had modified my transmission tunnel and installed my HAD driveline which I had since September.

This bad boy has 1350 u-joints all the way though so I could transfer all of my big block destructive power to the Dana 44 for spectacular carnage.

Looks like its up to the task of exploding a d44 :)

Not to hijack the thread but I'm moving back to Cali so you better get your butt in gear and finish this thing up b/c I'm itching to get out to Oceano and run w/ ya'...

Oh-Uh, now I got another person cracking the whip on my back.:eek1::haha:
Yeah, I know I have been wasting time during my break and I need to get this beast going. It didn't help I went for some parts run yesterday and everything was closed.
I’m already running out of money for this month. Christmas shopping really took a lot of extra money then expected, but I did order an ORD steering box brace. The small **** takes more money than the big ****.

I know how you feel, I've got an ORD frame brace and an Autometer Tranny temp guage sitting in the garage waiting to go in... seems like those small things add up so much faster than the big stuff...

Small update. I was aiming to get the Blazer going for Presidents' Day but it doesn't look like it going to happen.
I stated working on installing my body mounts two weekend ago, but ran out of time. Last weekend, I was out of town and it rained the whole week. Well, today we got a break in the weather, so I called my brother to help me got some small stuff done.
Oh, my neighbor finally got my flat-tops machined. Now I got to get the parts to get power coated.

Here is some pictures of how much my body raised up after the new mounts. the body was resting on top of the frame in this spot.
Here are my old body mounts.

The other set is spares or may be used for another project. I have not made up my mind yet. I had an extra set so I had everything machined at the same time.

Nice build. Subscribed. Can't wait for pics of it throwing sand. (yeah, more pressure, I know :D)

Keep going!!!! I'm collecting parts to swap out my crappy Superlift for 52's/56's and 35's then I'll be on my way over to Pismo. :)
Where did you get the new body mounts? I need to add that to my list of stuff...

Update 5/04/2008

****, I haven’t updated since late January. Well it didn’t help I was out of town almost every weekend in March.
Memorial Day is three weeks away, so I got to get this pig going.
It’s not I wasn’t working on it, but a lot of small things kept me from making major progress.

First, my old rear springs in the front are worn out, so the rear was sitting higher than the front. Instead of replacing the springs in front, I decided to drop the rear a little. Another problem was my Cal-tracs wasn’t touching the top of the leaf springs. If I adjust the links, the links would run out of adjustment.

I decided to make new brackets instead of making longer links, but first I had to set the rear ride height.
This turned to be a fiasco, and I knew I was going to have to do all these steps.
I bought a set of drop shackles from Blitzkrieg Motorsports.
Blitzkrieg_shackle.jpg

After I installed the shackles, my pinion angle changed and my rear drive shaft was binding. So I got degree shims. My rear U-bolts was just barely long enough before, now with the shims in place the u-bolts are too short. So, I bought new U-bolts anyway, Yes I know I supposed to replace the U-bolts every time I take I take a set off.
Well, with the ride height set, I measure the angle where I wanted my Cal-tracs and designed new brackets.

Now, I’m sure some of you saw my mishap with the fence in The Lodge. Well, I got the Blazer away from the fence, and got the axle shaft out to change the knuckle. Now some of you are wondering my 74 blazer should come with flattops already. But, the axle that is in blazer is a later model dana 44 the previous owner swapped in along with a mismatch geared 12-bolt in the rear. I’m hoping it the gearing is correct now since I put in a 14bsf with 3.73.
For my steering, I have made my drag link and tie rod. But the person I had to weld the bungs on got too much penetration and buggered up the threads in the drag link. The pit-man arm I got at the junk yard was too shallow and the nut is going to hit the frame. My neighbor fixed the left-hand threads on the drag link but I still need to get the tap for the right-hand threads. I rebuild a 2wd steering box and I got left is to do is the pre-load adjustments.
For my front brakes, I had the rotors turned today, and I packed the bearings with grease...twice, the first grease I used was for non-disc brakes.:doah: And I had rebuilt calipers for a while and I painted the calipers to be mounted. I should get the brakes done during the week.

Oh yeah, I mounted my Art Carr shifter.

Damn, I have been working on this pig and progress is still slow. It didn't help I left town last weekend.
Anyway, I made a couple of tools to help rebuild my steering box and finish rebuilding it. I picked up a pitman arm at the junk yard from a jeep Comanche. The arm has three inches of drop. I couldn't find any Wranglers, Cherokee or the right ford van. I reamed out the steering arm and pitman for drag-link ends. I mounted my steering box with the ORD brace and plumbed the steering system. I also finish plumbing my transmission cooler and brakes.
Tomorrow, (actually when I get up since it is already Sunday) I finish wiring the dash and mount my tires. Hopefully, I fire this bastard beast tomorrow and take it for a test drive.
