For Sale... The last 1987 GMC pickup.

I know as far as square body GM trucks go, there is no 'rare' squares. However I have for sale, what one could call a unique piece, the last 1987 GMC pickup and the last GMC pickup produced at the St Louis GM Truck and Bus plant.

This particular pickup was built on Aug, 8th 1987 in the GM St Louis assembly plant before the factory was shut down and razed. The story goes that GM offered by raffle, to the assembly line workers, the 'right' to purchase one of the last 2 pickups built, one GMC and one Chevy. The Chevy has been lost to time, but this is the GMC. As per a gentlemen's agreement between the plant manager and the raffle winner, the last St Louis GM plant manager drove this truck till the decommissioning of the plant was complete and the line worker took delivery of the truck on 11/06/87. The first owner, now retired, drove this truck sparingly till mid 2010 when the second fuel pump quit and he parked it in his garage. During its driving life, the truck racked up just 113,940 miles.

I purchased the truck in July of 2014. I took the truck to a retired GM mechanic and he installed 2 new AC Delco fuel pumps, a new fuel filter, a newer battery and the truck is now a running/driving vehicle. As it sits, the power windows are slow, but otherwise the truck is a complete and working correctly in all respects. The camper shell was installed new, when the truck was new and never removed. I see no reason to remove it now... Needless to say the inside of the bed is near new perfect.

The truck does have its share of parking lot damage and roadway issues. The truck was undercoated when new and in the most part did a very well job of protecting the body. However the rocker panel drain holes were plugged and caused the rockers to rust and get into the cab corners. Also, the inner fenders have the typical GM rust. Otherwise the truck is rust free. The only paint work that has been done is the hood has been painted on the outside. According to the original owner, one spring he parked under a flowering tree that left purple spot on the hood what would never come out or buff off. Only the hood and only on the outside has been painted.

I have and will go with the truck the original title issued in 1987 to the first owner. The state of Missouri was nice enough to void the title out and return it to me, do to the historical significance of the truck. I also have a good, clean Missouri title in my name, in hand, ready to be transferred to the new owner. Also included is the original, signed letter from the last GM Truck Plant, plant manager stating the status of the Last GMC truck from the St Louis plant. I have the original owner manual complete with St Louis plant embossing listing it as the ‘selling’ dealer.

Truck specifics highlights...

350 Fuel Injected V8 Engine (Yes a real 350 truck, Option/RPO code L05, see pictures), 700R4 Overdrive Transmission, Power Windows, Power locks, Tilt, Cruise, Intermittent wipers, Deluxe Interior, Hood Ornament, Cargo Lamp, 2.73 Rear Axle, Heavy Duty Springs, Rally Wheels, Dual Tanks, Deluxe Interior

The truck is located in St Robert Mo 65584. I can ship the truck if needed and or help with shipping as needed.

I have a good, clean, clear Missouri title in-hand ready to transfer to the new owner. I have lots of other pictures, send me a PM with your email address and I will be happy to send them to you.

I honestly really don’t need to sell the truck, however I am a realist and realize that I have no need nor do I really have the time or want to, to correctly store the truck.

I am asking $15,000 or best offer. I really don't have any interest in trades, sorry.

I am happy to help with shipping! I would guess shipping to either coast for $1000 or less. For a full price sale I will ship ANYWHERE in the lower 48 states for FREE!!!

I'd look into a little restoration and get that thing to one of the big auction houses...

I think you need to get the rust fixed before you will be able to get top dollar out of the truck. It would have been better if it was a short bed. Would have put you in a higher demand market. You have to remember, rare doesn't necessarily mean valuable. Long bed, half tons are usually only desirable when they get a lot cheaper than a comparable short bed.

I think the sale price is based on the novelty of it being the last one built. Even still, I can't see getting 15k for a truck that needs a full resto.

Disappointed...

I am disappointed on the way this thread seems to be going.

I did not but this in general discussion and ask "What's it worth?", I put this is the "For Sale" section with a price and open to offers. I realize that value is a subjective term at times, but for someone with no comprehension of a value of said vehicle to come out and put a lowball value on that vehicle is disappointing.

I had this truck for a year before putting it up for sale. During that year, I had time to research the truck itself and it's value. I also have watched the rise, fall and rerise of square truck values since 1995 or so. Its prior peak was 2001, followed by a free fall after 9/11, where trucks like Baylor's listed here were NOT selling at $3500! During my life, I have owned in the neighborhood 5-600 squares, so I feel I have a decent idea of what any truck is worth... I currently have 10 or 11 in the fold. Baylor's truck, for what's its worth, I personally think that he left several thousand dollars at the table on his sale, given the current square market and given the description of said vehicle. Its an easy sell at $15K, but I believe after a little advertising, $20k, would have been a good price.

Now with that being said, let me ask a question, so I can not be blamed for jumping the gun here... Do any of you have the last square Chevy built in 1987? If so, what did you get out of it? Or maybe more importantly, what did you give for it? Now that would be a good indication of my trucks value. However even then, we would be not 100% comparing apples to apples because I know that the Chevy was built in a less popular color combo... neither which were red or white.

In closing, I want to say that a collector has come look and made an offer on the truck. He understood my points, but also is looking to get the truck for the best deal. His standing offer is in the high 4 figure, low 5 figure range, I just think there's another dollar or 2 in the truck.

Myself personally, I was just trying to ease your pain in the case that you didn't get what you were asking. I think the history is cool and it could certainly be worth $15k or more. I myself was only offering the friendly advice that you may have a difficult time getting that much money for a truck that, while certainly special, isn't anything special. The only thing separating it from a $1000 truck is that it was the last one off the line in 87. Hence why I feel it will be difficult to get someone to pay you what it might be worth.

I see your last one comment, but I would say, my opinion, the #1 off the line is more valuable. Best of luck on the sale. I think you should list this on the larger Facebook square body truck groups, there are groups that have 50,000+ members in each.

Doesn't really do much for me. Idk why it really matters, but im also the guy that would probably put fun parts in a matching numbers car and not care

I personally would give you no more than 2k on that rig. And that would be on a good day. Sorry, but it is old, it is stock, and it has rust.

All we are trying to do is help and give you a little warning on what kind of offers you were going to get. No one is faulting you for what you are asking. I just sold a truck for $13500 that booked for $8500. It is possible to get more for desirable vehicles. eBay has been the best place I have found to sell those types of vehicles as it gets national if not worldwide attention.

I think you are right in thinking there is more in it than $4-5K range if that is the first offer. But fixing that rust could put you a lot closer to the $15K potential. The risk is spending more fixing it than you get back out of the investment.

Without the history, you are looking at a $400 truck.

On a good day.
