Nooowwwwww From the beginning.
First time I've attempted a build thread, so bear with me. haha
This truck was my first build, I was 15 and in love with square body chevys. My Dad found the truck I have to day..... errrrr kinda the truck I have today at a local body shop. It was butt ugly, painted rootbeer brown with a tan top above the cab trim. It had a 3 rally wheels and 1 spare. Someone had swapped the original 6 cyl for a 350 but left the 700r4 and 208 still in the truck. The exhaust was out of a horror film, someone welded the pipes straight to the manifolds. The motor was tired and lacked all but the half inch of grease coating the entire thing. The shocks were blown and the springs were saggin'. But for some godforsaken reason, I HAD to have that truck.
The plan was simple, 1. Get it running 2. six inch lift 3. 36's........I had no idea what I was about to dive into........ with no knowledge of much things automotive, I relied heavily on my Dad to guide me.
Soon as the truck came home, work began. Motor was yanked, cab was yanked, bed was yanked. Soon i had nothing left but a bare pressure washed chassis. Painted the frame and axles (10b's with 3.43 gears
). Bought a new cab from the wrecking yard that had power windows and locks, bought doors to replace the ones I had just bought, because after further review they were crap. haha. Replaced the front clip with an '89 Burb. Completed the collection of rally wheels and painted them black too. the bed was the only thing to stay. Inside of the cab was bed lined and interior was redone. Steering box was replaced, as well as all the brakes. Rear axles were pitted and had to go, so a set of polar axles went in.
Then it was time for the expensive part..... the engine. The tired 350 went to my friend for a Toyota build (which never happened). Its replacement was a Vortec 350 with a chewed up roller cam. It was stripped, cleaned, checked, honed, re-ringed, valve guides were replaced, and a ZZ4 cam was installed. An edlebrock manifold sat on top with a matching 1406 carb and the existing HEI was used. All new belts, hoses, sensors. Nothing was easy about this motor, it fought us for weeks. Finally it was drive-able, it was damn ugly, but drive-able, and I was happier than a pig in sh*t
