what a night, things went well and smooth, busting non rustly bolts free is a breeze
the u-bolts fought us, im missing one in the rear, rear break line is done, front break lines have the 7/16 bango so I am swapping calipers. The rear springs are crazy tall and stiff. I think they are 8 inch superlifts so I am going to remove two of the leafs. The front springs seem to actually be 4 inch springs with a 3 leaf pack, so im going to add a couple leafs to get it level and maybe a zero rate. The rear driveline angle is horrible so I might rotate the perches. I also need to still buy a new set of these tires or some other tires for it and get the kid over hear to degrease these things.Jason is helping fix the broken studs in the manifold, then ill finish up the rest of the exhaust.

ah tonight went well, got the manifold back and it got put back on, now i just need to get the exhaust back and bolted in. We removed two of the rear leafs, it lowered the rear a bit and the spring rate alot! The thing actually moves now when you put weight on it. For the front I made a zero rate out of a old overload and we bolted it in and it seems just about perfect and level now. Also changed out a damaged valve stem so no more hjack stand to hold it up like in the pics
Im not sure but I think im going to get another set of these tires and run them on it, they look different and give it some personality, for the rear I will add wheel spacers though to match the front.
here is the latest pic after tonight and with it level and on tires with air, getting close
left to do, fix the pinion angle in the rear by moving the perches, hook up the front break lines, steering and get the rear driveline rebuilt and longer.

I'd like to know more about the wheel spacers too. Why is that axel so narrow compared to the front? Still learning here

as stated they are the xls,
plan on a 2 inch spacer on the left rear and right rear.
from the factory the rear axles are narrower than the front, it helps with the turning radius

how much do a set of those tires run n wheres a good place to look/find em??? yea i cant stand the narrower rear end on my 86...my 90 has a 1 ton swap and its much better...almost exact same track width...love how the wheels stick out n jus cover it when playin n tha mud...

so so far Im into this thing for 360.00 out of pocket
today dropped off the driveline to my d-shaft guy..45 minutes later i get a call saying its done!
Tonight we yanked out the rear, removed perched, reinstalled, tacked perches, pulled, finish welded. Installed the driveline, tracked down the right bango bolts, bleed brakes. Installed stock steering arm back on and used the new superlift draglink.
Now im working on putting the restored grill from my old blazer on it and removing the chrome grill. I ran into a problem though as gm changed the lower valence and I have to use one from the old blazer. So tomorrow ill shoot the valence white and be in business.
left to do is the exhaust install, change fluids and a new set of military tires, i also still have my old rear driveline I will build a spare out of. Other odd balls such as sliders, roll bar, paint and misc are on the brain.

shot some paint on the lower filler piece today and got the nice grill on, looks clean to me
its getting there
as for the job in az, depends on your needs, I still see plenty of people employed, with the city being the 5th? largest there is always some type of job to be had.

Got the exhaust on, the lug nuts, changed fluids and took it out to the desert with a few friends tonight. It rides very smooth with no vibes, considering the tires are trashed I was amazed.
One issue is its still running a bit off. Its fine on the highway but loads up otherwise and the exhaust smells really ruff.
any chance having a plugged cat could have damaged or bent a valve causing the smoke?

nah, just needs to be tuned, someone probably adjusted the carb to try to compensate for the plugged cat.

I took it out this weekend, it rubbed but not too much to wreck anything, im going to trim the front fenders ever so slightly and just the the bottom edge in the rear.

I'm just curious, i got a cousin that moved down there for the MMI a couple years ago, and he's always trying to get me to move.
