The new shop. Progress.

missed all this.. congrats.. i'll have to read the thread, bet it has a ton of potential....

Paint the whole thing white top to bottom and ceilings. It will help immensely in making it not look and feel like a cave. Guy I worked for once in an old mining shop did it and it made a huge difference even with 3 story tall ceilings. Find a used heated parts washer, the cabinet style if you will be working with greasy/oily parts a lot.

That's the plan for paint. Everything gloss white and the floors epoxy white.

I don't see any windows, what about ventilation? Not sure about NE Tn but it might get pretty warm in the summer, humidity will make the dead air miserable.
Agreed. You're going to need at least a window AC unit, somewhere...I never did acclimate to summers in N. Mississippi. The humidity killed me. We received more precipitation in one month in MS than the entire year in CO, ha. If you have a swamp cooler in CO, leave it here. It will just be a humidifier in TN.

The windows were rarely open in our house in MS. The heat pump (which worked awesome) was either on AC or on HT. The only way I was able to get the humidity inside down to a comfortable level was by running two dehumidifiers, one on the first floor and one on the second floor. The heat pump alone wouldn't condense enough moisture unless I had the temp set to about 65F.

Congrats on the move!

Yes, the heat and humidity are going to be a problem...when you get your compressor make sure you allow for a very good drying system, you ill be changing dessicant often. It's miserable in the summer months most years, you won't be able to paint or maybe even breathe without AC. The heat and humidity are the down side to the South.

I will be looking forward to your posts as you comment on adjusting to life in Tennessee.

If you don't have 220 for welders in, now would be a great time. I'd put at least three to four in opposite locations for convenience.
On that same note, can't have enough 110 outlets and plenty of your LED lighting.

Congrats on the retirement. I’d love to have that much space. I got a one bay extended myself. It’s useful but I’ve used much of the foot space around my blazer already and it’s getting tougher to find places to store stuff as it accumulates. Ac would be nice in the summer as it’s hard to work while sweating into your eyes while working on something. Being super hot isn’t great either. I was in basic training in Kentucky and that was crazy hot and there was no off days because of heat or humidity. I’m guessing T.N is no different. Floors have to be first so you can get stuff moved in after they are done. Or do half and let it dry then move stuff and get the other half done. Something to keep the humidity out will help a lot. Even if it’s dehumidifier at first until you get the hvac installed later. I like dans ideas with putting in all the electric you need in all places as well. Can’t ever have too many outlets. You have some great plans already. Enjoy.

Congrats, it looks like a great shop! I too am on the A/C bandwagon, even if it had to financed. When we built our new shop back in 1998 it was a huge investment to cool the square footage, but as my guys work in 68 degree comfort today on a muggy 85 degree day outside I have zero regrets.

Take heed to what these guys say about the humidity. How long have you been in Colorado? Going from a dry climate to a humid one is something you will not get used to.

In my youth i spent a summer in Des Moines, Iowa. I thought I was going to never stop sweating, 99% humidity everyday. I prayed for for 1 more % called rain.
