The old daily, 1992 Chevy S10 Blazer

So you’re not changing the starter in the wal mart parking lot eh? At least you can bump start the 5 speed

This morning started out with my friend working on his new Jeep cutting off a broken plow mount. Then we hooked up my old tire bar to the bumper so he could flat tow it home to finish getting the clutch and brake linkage free from each other so it would be drivable again.

Then, I pulled the S10 Blazer back into the shop to replace the harmonic balancer and front seal. A couple hours later and I was finally able to set the timing properly again. The old balancer slipped on the hub noticeably.

The remote oil filter hoses is another not that fun job ( much like the starter ). I had a leak and tried the Dorman hoses and they started leaking again within a year. Swapped to the GM version and it's been fine ever since.

Replacing the tie rods, idle and pitman arms today. Everything is straight forward except the pitman arm. That requires unbolting the steering box and pushing it back towards the firewall. That leaves just enough room for the socket to remove the nut and using a pitman arm removal tool.

Pretty cool rig. Really any S10 of either generation is an oddball with a 4.3 and a 5 speed. Some are weirder than others though and I think you've got one, lol. Right up there with my 5 speed ZR2 Blazer that is a factory built 2wd (no front diff or t-case).

I had a '91 4.3 with a 5 speed for many years and the engine mounts were shot. It looked like no fun to replace them, so I rigged up a limit strap on the drivers' side using a tailgate cable. It worked great and I could bang shift the 2-3 again.

I guess you could say this one spoke to me. I like the oddball stuff. I was looking for a good gas mileage beater for commuting (just about anything would be better than than the big block C20) and this popped up cheap. It just needed a little love.

Didn’t have any Chevys at the Chevy dealer?
Nothing worth buying. I missed out on a 2002 S10 double cab for $8K a few weeks back. That would have been cheap enough to pay cash and done the same thing. The only downside would have been the transmission.
