The R/C Garage... [R/C Drivers Lounge]

My scx10 axles need gears, bearings, and front axle shafts so I think I would be better off buying different axles...

Buddy and I went with cappu axles, unsure on build quality of them yet. Looks like I'll need to shim the pinion tighter. Where as buddies were mint out of the box.

They were roughly $200 off eBay, figured guy could test em out.

Let me know how they work out for ya, Im pretty rough on mine so I need something pretty tough :D

Well considered my options, got some cappu wraith axles for the scx. Ends are on order, going to do the ready rod upper links. Just waiting for the link ends to get here now.

Talked to JJ, he was of great help.

Figured I'd try these cappu pieces out. Seems I can't find any thing about their axles so figured I'd try em.

Glad I could help out.

Those look nice, you can figure to have to shim on all pinions sooner or later.

I run the vanquish curries in my trucks, I like the modular design aspect of them. Too back they're $160 front and $150 rear.

Anyone have a set of the new vaterra tsl swampers they don't want anymore?

I need some.

JJ

A little update on my trucks too.

I still have my Nissan Titan scx10 with the xr10 modded axles in it, I also run an axial wraith but I transformed it into a 1.9 wraith. I like it better that way.

Well blew the front pinion out of the ascender. Ordered HD ones from RPP.

Figured I should get back on the wroncho. Finished it up, shimmed the gears, remade one link.

Took it for a quick burn:

The Axial axles are the toughest you can buy, especially when upgraded with HD ring and pinions and CVD's. I havent seen anything handle the kind of power you can put through them. Plus the parts availability is great, and there are tons of aftermarket upgrades.

E revo ends/ 8-32 ready Rod uppers. Alum rod lowers, Angled ends.

I relocated the front upper link mounts to the outside of the frame and an inch ahead of stock. So I didn't have to do the funky bend around driveshaft. Rear is in Stock location, with the funky bend over the driveshafts.

Been runnin the wroncho a bit. Finished off the front outdrive/tossed the front shaft. Had a different style that has a hole instead of a milled flat like it had. Using traxxas 5145 cross pin/set screw now.

Drove the thing home 1/2 mile in 2wd, was a fun trip :haha:

So far, this things a totally different truck. Suspension actually flexes good, tons more stable.

Put a castle 3800 4 pole out of my slash in it. Tones it right down compared to the velineon. Still have to swap the vxl esc for the MMP though.

Haven't touched the wroncho at all, ordered a 3mm bolt kit, grub screws, driveshaft bolts for it.

Bought a vaterra ascender today, rc4wd boggers and wheels, king shocks and other this and that's.

Ok since I am on this year long deployment I started looking at these. Found the Vaterra Ascender and it looks pretty cool.

Feedback from those that have one?

Good rig id say, can't say they are as tough as a axial scx. But drive ability, looks, handling has the scx beat IMO. And being it comes with steel links, trans transmission is a huge plus. Also believe there is a kit you can get to convert the trans to a a 2 speed as well.

Buddy put a brushless setup in his, it didn't take him long to destroy it. But he is rediculously hard on his stuff.

I think I am gonna get the RTR kit for now. Something to play with out here.

Maybe later get another body to try and replicate my Blazer, and add the 2 speed kit once I get the hang of driving it.

How easy is the plastic to work with as far as like removing the top and rolling the edges over etc.

I see they sell the 89-91 grille setups for the clodbuster. Not sure how close on size the two bodies are.

Can't answer your questions, I've never really worked on cutting em up. I have seen a half top someone built on Google images though.

Also forgot to mention, the front is 3 link with panhard bar and has a chassis mounted servo. Which is a great touch.

Ok cool. I think I am going to get the RTR Ascender this month some time.

You will be amazed with it.

First time I ran mine, it was night and day over the scx I have. Just totally different.

While parts searching on RPP I found some stock style alum bumpers, all I gotta say is I love em.
