The ravings of a lunatic mind. WOB mostly.

Archives are great ideas, but you gotta get people to use them....it's the same disease-family as Grim's RTFM. I guess it's RTFFAQ or RTFA (archive).

Auto search isn't a bad idea, but I can imagine that would be hard to implement, not to mention a ton of matches that aren't what you are looking for. What about a pop-up when you make a new post, that asks "have you checked the FAQ?"

Hopefully others on here (I'm guilty, I haven't read the FAQ thoroughly) read just about every post, and if they know the FAQ, could refer the poster to it, thus ending the thread.

Want to see a good FAQ, check out http://yeagerd.home.mindspring.com/index2.html

Brotherly Love...

Well, it seems that most people here are willing to help somebody else out with a question or tech issue they have. I remember when Steve first started this, hell, I remember when OR.C & Offroadlist.com were the only places to get information. I learned more off Offroadlist.com then any where you can imagine. There are people there that have mixtures of everything on their vehicle. Seems that most of the people that post on there are engineers and tech individuals. When I first got into fourwheeling, I was a wee tot. My mom's X had a K5 Blazer, my brother and I pretended it was a tank. We would fold the seat up in the back, and use the lever to blow up cars in front of us. Then seeing him take it out "fourwheeling" as he called it. That was nothing more then an excuse to put it in 4x4. Getting older, my mom bought a 86 Chevy S-10 Blazer. I LOVED that truck. It was the first 4x4 I was ever able to drive. If my mom knew what I had did with that truck, I'm sure she would beat my hinie. You sole K5 & Full size junkies would be amazed at what a s-10 w/ 2.8 5sp manual can do! Granted, I'm amazed that I didn't blow a half shaft, rear drive shaft or some other drive train part still to this day. My first 4x4 was a 84 Chevy extended cab S-10. 2.8 & 4sp. I always felt that the truck would could do better, but I never dared to try. I knew enough about fourwheeling to know that I didn't have the money to get the truck fixed, and I needed a winch. .......

Um, what the heck am I ranting about ... Some things I can point out, and I know they have been pointed out before, do a search. You should be searching before you are posting a question. This forum has been around for quite some time. It may help if we (as posters) would put a good subject line in. A lot of times there may be a listing as "These are big and round" when a better line may be 35" tires, or 35" Boggers on my 4" lifted truck. That would work better as far as the search goes. All too often, I know the information is here, but the subject line was soo screwed up that the information wouldn't come up.

Also, as far as the Terms, I had a whole thing on my site, but I may have deleted it. It wasn't a commonly visited portion of the site.

One thing steve has to put up with is all the questions. I've gotten to the point that I no longer reply to stupid posts. If somebody has a valid question, or concern, I'll put what informationI have, location of the information, and or my opnion. When people ask 5 million times if 35" will fit under a 4" lift, they are getting stupid. Thats a search item. By the way, my answer is still NO, they won't fit. but thats my opnion. My 33's hit on 4" lift.

I've seen where people are helping others out by telling them to visit somebody elses site. It always makes me feel good to see somebody reference my site. I made a huge effort when Steve and I started our sites. This is steves baby. I'm not into computers like most other people are. I do and have done all my HTML the good old fashion way. I script it. I hate HTML editors. Seems that things don't turn out the way they want it. The down fall to that is it takes me 1 day to do what steve and others can do in 1 hr. With that in mind, I dropped it. Steve has a great thing going here. There are so many things that work here, and every body is a great family. Well now that Buttman is gone
laugh.gif
. you older guys will love that one. As far as tech articles. i'm bad for that. I used to write for O-R.C. Due to a falling out on my Winch issue in which a sponsor didn't like the fact that a hydraulic winch is nowhere near as good as a electric winch and I took the time to describe why and examples they woudn't post what the truth was. I had to completely redo my review. Thats BS! If a person has an opnion and facts to back it up so be it. If it makes an item designed to do the same thing, but does it better, people should know about it! (DOWN WITH MILE MARKER!) Also, I have a lot of information that I just haven't taken the time to offer. Wny haven't I? I guess I'm just too lazy. As a matter of fact, I posted information aobut my disc swap and rear axle install. There is a lot of information about the S/F 14 that woudl be great for any site. I just never took the time to OFFER it. Does that make me a bad person? Does it make Steve or Shawn a bad person for not asking if they can have it? NO, NO & NO. Its just politics. One of the best things about having your own site is you can post waht you want. You won't have the president of Mile Marker getting pissed at you because warns HS95i will pull the S#IT out of thier P.O.S! You don't have to worry about some body coming by and saying that they don't like the way you have something written and you have to redo it to continue to keep it on their site. You are your own man. The down fall to being your own man is man hours. The time it takes to keep the site up and maintained is huge. I dropped my sites daily maint. in favor of riding motorcycles & playing at the beach. Gratned its about time to start applying my self back to my truck, and the fact that I just sunk over $500 in back logged routine maint. and still quite a few things to go shows that. The internet/autos are like most things in life, if you don't use it and maintain it, it will fall apart on its own. I'm about to make a valid attempt to redo my site. There is more information in my computer and documented lying aroundthe house then I can use. I may as well let others use it also. I'm also sure that I offerd long ago to others that they can use information off my site, just put a link or my e-mail address at the bottom for those that further questions. Like most of you, I started small. I have learned 99.7% of what I know by doing hands on. A lot of the other time, I've asked a few questions and it gave me the knowledge to do it on my own. I usually just ask what problems they had, and any spcial tools. Its hard to get more parts when your truck is above you in pieces. Another thing I would suggest is keep a camera with you. When you start doing some work on your truck, snap a pic. take something else off, snap, next snap, snap, snap, snap. Before you know it, you have a full blown article. It doesn't have to be a $700 Cannon like mine, it can even be a disposable 35mm. Hell, thats probably better. You can take your own pic's. I usually have to wash my hands, or have a friend there to take the pic's. Either way, all you do is document the tool sizes, problems and what you are doing. Before you know it things get done, and everybody loves you for it!.

Well, you guys are paying me rigtht now. I guess I better get back to work. Sorta...

An auto search might be do-able, but I don't know how much black box wwwthreads is. I think that is the reason Steve wasn't too excited about it. Maybe just a reminder is good enough.

You're right, maybe just a note from a person who is familiar with the FAQ would be enough.

That is a great FAQ. It would be real easy to set up a menu like that and then the link simply brings up search results from the forum. That way it is kind of a dynamic FAQ.

Just some ideas bouncing around. I think this is good!! Online brainstorming you might call it

Do you still have the write up on the winches? I'd like to read it if you still have it.

I like to read perversion by the do-it yourself / shade tree mechanics. Perhaps alot of guys are like me who keep your tools in a back pack and do not have a garage or power tools or heck just cement to lay on.
However, last night I become the proud owner of a Craftman floor jack and a air compressor. Note, I still lay on cardboard.

Maybe some of you guys have helped me on my current 6.2 clanker to a 1993 TBI 454 swap (my friend helped with his shop) or my current axle swap to 3/4 ton stuff.

I like to hear real world stuff...by guys that do not always have the "correct tool" but can tell how he did it. Noteing some of the things he had problems with.

Those are my thoughts....And Mr. Steve, the stickers are a fine reward, perhaps you can make them a special color denoteing a post only sticker.

Mile marker...totaly agree. I know somebody sueing them. Defect let it pop out of gear and the end result was a Z71 in a creek on it's side for a week. He wasn't doing a recovery he was respooling the cable! He had maybe 1000lb load on the line when it happend. I know of 2 others that had the same problem but none had any damage as a result.
Let us know when you get the site updated.

YOU AND YOUR OPINIONS!!!!!!!!

Wait, this is the wrong post for that.
I agree with what yer saying Grim. Kiinda cracks me up to think of some of the "old hands" from the site sitting around swappin lies. Anybody remember the old board? How about when there were about 20 people that surfed the original CK5 site? I even seem to recall Steve having a site with the title Foxden for a while? When Furby attacked the site over a weekend. When Michigan Blazer rolled her rig one morning? When Bubba got hit by the drunk driver? When Corey first started his 4" lift won't clear 33's argument? Or when there was only ONE board and Steve finally had to make another for parts for sale/Wanted? How about the first write-up we got from Depdog?
There have been a LOT of good memories from this site and I'm sure there will be more. Sure, wadeing through stupid [censored] posted my dumb ****s has became rather popular, but those are the kind of things that any growing board will have to live through.

As for tech articles, I could have swore that at some point about a year and a half ago, we almost had you convinced to do a tech article on a Quadrajet and how to make one work. Glenn doesn't call you the Carb King for nothing.

If it comes down to it, slap a winch cable on the new one and drag it out. Remember to be a good spotter in the delivery room and make sure she only listen's to one of you.

Take care, and good luck.

You're the only one I've seen on the board can call someone a "dumb ass" right to their face and still have them laugh with you!!

Seriously, Kyle89 brought back some memories. The old board where it was strictly trucks and helping people with Blazers & 4x4's (with a laugh or two thrown in for good measure). Oh well, we'll just call them the "good ol days"!

What's funny is that no sooner is your post up & the "what size tire with 4" lift" post shows up!!

POST 900! I NEED A LIFE!

Yeah Kyle I remember the good old days hahaha. I had a life back then...My A$$ wasn't as wide as the seat LOL.
One of the guys in my club recently said I need to get a life and write a freaking book, I tend to answer lots of tech questions there also. I'm well over 1200 posts now between here a Off-road.com. Probaly just need to pull some of my longer posts and slap them up in the tech section hahaha.
You remember when I kept telling everybody I was going to put up a section on my truck. at Off-Road.com That section has been typed up for well over 1.5 years and most of the pictures are on my site here hahaha. Ohhhh I I bet Shawn will want it now that I fessed up it is so close to done. Life caught me off gard and the iron in my blood turned to lead in my butt. Really ment to get that stuff done...honest I did.
I will tell you that I got motivated and Steve already has my Heatercore Tech story...all 2.5 pages of solid text hahaha. Haven't heard from him...waiting for the"this is great but could you whittle it down some?" hehehe.
Hay someone mentioned Depdogs stuff...you know that pic of his truck on it's side with the guy in the black BFG shirt looking at it? Guess who that is? hahahaha.
For the recored While Dep's Grill is much nicer than mine...mine was the first one! Now I need to go see Dep and get him to help clean mine up. He really did a nice job on it. When I first met him and got a chance to look at his truck I couldn't believe how many things we did the same long before we ever met. You look and we both did the monster rockers, both did a home brew flip and both had the same thoughts about adding a brace to the mount, we both had our fenders cut back about the same amount ( he has cut back more now and I will probably do the same) It was funny. I just need to catch up to him, find some time and get my front end done. Then he and I need to run up to 4wheel parts center and get on their wide ramp side by side and get a few pics of the two beasts ramped. Well I got some good news today and looks like I got the new position I applied for!!!!!! Now I might have some spare cash again to dump into the truck. I'm working a possible deal for a set of 4.10 axles with a Detroit rear and discs too :) That will get me partly caught up to Dep. Hope I can swing it and some new tires by the Tellico K5 run. We going to hit some of the real hard core stuff this time Dep? Now way I'm doing 12 (helicopter pad) so don't even think about it...I walked it at Dixie and I wouldn't dream about it if you don't have FI....THAT"S SOME SERIOUS STUFF! I'll take the bypass hehehe.

KEWL DEAL! They will be proudly applied to my truck when they come (if you send 2 windshields the BFG one on the wifes K5 is getting a bit tattered

). I'm not a sticker person and the only stickers I have are United, Southern, Georgia bounty runners affilitation stickers just in front of the doors (and the BFG on the wifes79). I do have a Off-Road.com sticker that I got from DepDog on the rear bumper. CK5 Will get the top spot on the top of the windsheild. I have no problem letting people know about the best site on the web.
Thanks!

Eco Nazis, Freeze your little ballz off bitches! No dams, nuke plants, wood burning, Freeze little bitches! LOL. No DVD for you! Don't shower either! I hate tree huggers, they live in wooden houses, drive cars that are made from mined minerals, eat animals killed on a farm, use gas drilled from the ground, these people are idiots! Just the musings of an Idaho boy!

taterblazer,

You just reminded me of a favorite line in the movie Armegeddon. The part when the guy is sitting on the nuke on the asteroid, the NASA pilot tells him to get off. Then he says "sorry man, just wanted to feel the power between my legs." Next he is standing on the ground next to the bomb, and says " Col. Sharp, check this out... (stomping the ground as he chants) NO NUKES! NO NUKES! NO NUKES" That was some funny s#it! Gotta love it.

I also just got done reading the other posts since my last post. Man, there are sure some good issues there. Some good memories and lots of funny issues. BUT! I will scream at the top of my lungs, and until I'm blue in the face FRIGGIN 33's WILL NOT FIT UNDER A 4" LIFT!

I know what you mean about service. I almost got arrested at a Mcdonalds down town once. I go through the drive through and make the order. Get to window, and they give me half the order. I patiently informed her that the entire order was not there. Her solution, she tells me that I was'nt charged for the rest of the order. Like it was going to be a bonus or something. Two minutes later, after lots of arguing, cussing and slamming of little windows I was inside ready to pull the manager over the counter, and beat my dambed egg Mcmuffin out of him. That was the third time in a week and a half, at the same store, that that had happened. After they called the cops I figured it was best to get the hell out of dodge. I still had to go somewhere else to get breakfast for my girlfriend. Its like that everywhere now.

Hey we should start a pool on when all these babies are going to get here. Any news Grim? My bet is tuesday.
Maybe its already here, and your just really, really, really busy?
Ps. I can do an article on doing sound and heat insulation really cheap.
