The RedBurb

Every Part Is Replaceable
It’s already mounted as high as it can go unfortunately. I’m sure I’ll end up building some kind of skid plate for it someday
What prevents you from moving the bracket bolted under the upper frame section to above the frame?
I see plenty of space between the frame and the body.20250607_211928.jpg

I don't know if oil filters are different but half of my cars had horizontal filters
Yes, oil filters are different. They are fed by more pressure, typically, plus a bubble in the oil system doesn't cause an engine stumble or low power.
It's very common for diesel fuel filters to be on the suction side of a pump from my knowledge.

I don't remember ever seeing a diesel with filters that aren't vertical. Even the secondary ones on newer Cummins ISX12 and X15 engines, which is fed low pressure fuel. They are the first diesel filters that I have ever seen which don't require prefilling or bleeding. We found this out by experimenting.

Finally took the pump down and started looking around for a better spot. I can only find two that make sense, and both will require a custom mount. Either way needs to be on the driver side as the exhaust will run down the full length of the passenger side frame rail.

The first option is actually outboard the frame, just behind the transmission crossmember. This takes advantage of a high jump in the floorboard and get the pump way up and out of the way. If I get it high enough, it’ll be protected by the @AgDieseler OG sliders (see old pic for reference). But is it problematic to have it outboard the frame? I don’t know. Seems like there is a possibility it would interfere with the parking brake cable.

Second option is just behind the end row seat where the floor jumps way up. This is also the spot where the Robert’s Custom Trucks rear shock crossmember is going to go, so I would have to weld a bracket to that crossmember for the pump, which also means I’d have to wait until I got that crossmember in, which will delay progress quite a bit.

A third option would be to do something similar to what David did and put it inboard the frame right behind the transmission crossmember. Would still require a custom mount and would not be as high as outboard the frame, but would still be better than where I had it originally (see David’s photo I robbed for reference).

The first and third option are ones I can tackle sooner. The 2nd option would have to wait a while.
