Also look at the ends of the leaves and you can usually see a difference in how they are cut or tapered compared to the rest of the leaves in the pack, that is unless they just bastardized some more chevy leaves in there and not actual add-a-leaves.

Looks to me like that’s what they did. Not all of the leaves match, and some appear to be bent or broken.

I’ll try and remember to snap a pic of the spring packs I have that came out of a burb. Looks like a couple add a leafs for sure.

That's a lot of red rust on the springs. I might be splitting hairs, but the extra friction makes it harder for the leaves to slide past each other. Making the packs act stiffer than they would with proper lubrication.

It's not the primary problem, but something worth fixing if you pull the packs apart.

You’re probably right. Seems like it’s also missing clamps. Honestly, it might be worth tossing the packs all together, perhaps with a set matching the front so the spring rates are the same. But will see.

Depending on what you do you probably want stiffer springs in the back. Maybe not as stiff as what you have now, but think about the cargo loads you want to haul and buy appropriately.

General Spring in Kansas City makes excellent stock replacement springs in several different load ranges. I think mine ran $105 each. Or you can clean up what you have and put some new Teflon pads on there. After you sort out the spring rate.

I’ll probably replace the spring pack altogether. From hard experience, I have learned that anything the PO has touched needs to be tossed and replaced.

Not much to update. The weekend got pretty busy so we were not able to make it to the fire road and subsequently missed the deadline for the calendar. Oh well, perhaps next year. 2020 here we come.

I did however put together a couple to-do lists to help me get back on track. First is a list of projects that I have parts for on the shelf waiting to be installed. Second is a list of projects where parts are still needed. The 2nd list is MUCH shorter than it ever has been.



In a very slow season right now where I am trying to tackle what I have parts for as time becomes available. Also trying to save for the axle parts AND a car for my wife, not sure those two really go hand in hand, so the wife will probably come first. Fortunately I have a whole lot of little stuff to keep me busy.

I know this is old news, but I never did get a pic of my spring packs. It does look like maybe the PO replaced two of the leafs with AAL’s? Idk... just throwing that out for no reason. Haha

They’ve definitely been messed with. Like I said, *eventually* I will just replace the packs altogether, *eventually*! I really need to keep my focus on the Dana 60. It’s so easy to get distracted by smaller projects and then wonder why I never have the money to get this 60 done.

Riddle me this:

Have had this new power steering pump installed for about 6-8 months, and it’s leaking. Not sure from where, but appears may be from this hole here at the bottom. Bad pump or what?



Hard to see in the photo, but circled where the hole is, right next to that blue dot.

Hate to say it but you might be time ahead if you just remove the pump. It’ll keep you from adding words to the dictionary too. Lol

Actually I was able to get a wrench on it and give it a little snugging, although didn’t really seem that loose. Not sure if there is some other issue.

Very rarely have I ever been fortunate enough for a simple fix. Lol

I did however do something new tonight: never installed bicycle tires before and just finished installing 4. Gotta love the pile of truck parts filling my garage. My floor space is getting smaller and smaller.
