I have been on track to cleaning up my 82CC dually and ran across an idea and would like the knowledge of the brotherhood.

I have a parts truck and started looking at the door edge guards.
All those times I bump and ding doors on my daily driver makes me think these guards might be a good idea.
BUT I found lots of rust under these things on the parts truck.
What do you think??

Those door guards are for people that are too lazy or uncaring about other peoples rides...so the rust they generate is just karma IMHO. I wouldn't run them.

X2

I wouldn't run those or the SS wheel well trim. Rust magnets.

X's 2. Don't make the truck look nice either. Breaking up the paint in the middle of the truck with a vertical crome strip looks tacky.

I guarantee that those door edge guards were not the sole cause of the rust. See that crap brown paint? I'll betcha it's the main reason for it... well, mostly just poor prep work before the paint. I've pulled off many, many metal door edge guards and found nice paint under them.

I assume its the factory paint.

No, that brown is not original.

Also I forgot to mention earlier, I also don't recommend installing those on your pretty red truck;)

What about a small strip of spray-on bedliner, color-matched as closely as possible, just running up that vertical door edge...

Just gave me an idea...

I thought about that to run the length of the lower portion of the truck. I guess ill have to pass on it. Just thought it would be a good protection devise. I still would not let my guard down when opening the doors.

You could put some of that clear paint protection on there.
