The return of the Bizznatch. Now, with Monstaliner!

Still dunno about the rear seats

Here's to hoping. I don't care if they ever fold forward; I have two minivans I can use to carry stuff if I need the ability to carry plywood or what not.

I was hoping to do a late model install of some Tahoe rear seats, but fabbing up those brackets as some here have been kind enough to show is way beyond my ability. I did see that you can buy the floor hardware for them, so part of me wonders if I can simply bolt that down and go, but I don't know. I have an intact rear seat with lap belts, and the youngest three are in car seats anyway.

For my next trick...

Got the old carpet stripped off with a heat gun. Smelled fabulous.

Now, suggestions on how to handle bolting that seat back in based on what I have? I don't have the pockets anymore, and so instead of making them removable, I just assumed I'd bolt them in. Thoughts on how to do that?

Captians chairs out of the rear of a newer suburban are super simple to install. They fold forward too!!

I'm trying to be able to seat six (I have six in the fam) so I'd like to do a late model install of Tahoe 3rd row seats, but I've seen some elaborate attachment schemes. Then I happened to see the brackets from a Tahoe or Burb that mount to the floor...and it looks like the seat can simply attach to those.

I'm hoping someone knows. I've already got "extra" crossbeams welded in for strength.

OK, new idea.

To attach the Tahoe seats, any reason why I couldn't fab up a rectangle made of 1x3 or 1x4 steel, with cut outs for the spots where the seats attach and sink into pockets?

I'm going to post this question around here for some more hits, too. My apologies in advance.

Never did hear anything from the Tahoe forums. Meh.

Anyway, back at it today. Got the chrome off today so I could do some more work to it.

Here's where I am. Anything I should do while I've got stuff opened up here, in any of your experience?

Plan is to sand, clean, prime, paint, leave off so I can paint fenders, then reassemble.

Also found that only one horn was plugged in. Lovely. No clue where the driver's side horn wire is. Some interesting wiring garbage I will need to sort out soon, methinks.

There was a thread on here, possibly in the interior section about installing a 3rd row 2000 + Suburban seat. It needed some mods, but went in the stock location. This may not help you as you don`t have the front pockets anymore.

Finally got the interior sanded down so it's ready for new seam sealer, Rust Bullet, and Monsta-liner.

Used a grinder for any welds sticking up, then both a 36 and 60-grit sanding wheel, then a stripping wheel, and finally a palm sander with 60 grit on it.

Not enough light to show the cab part, but that's done, too.

OK. Update: Threw down the Monstaliner. First, I did all the prep for any step you'll read here.

I wire-wheeled, ground, and otherwise sanded things as smooth as could be. Then, used some POR-15 ahead of using the POR-15 Epoxy Putty to fill some holes. Waited for the putty to solidify, then sanded where necessary.

Then used Rust Bullet all over as a primer (after sanding or scuffing everything again) and once more again after finding a few scratchy spots I somehow missed.

Now, this is the first coat of Monstaliner. In case anyone is wondering, the color I used is named "Pyroclastic". It seemed closer to the 2002 seat covers than the medium gray. Very pleased so far.

It's almost as if I didn't do it!

Honestly, paint is one thing I *can* do, so hopefully, it holds up. When I legally get it on the road for the first time in almost three years. In the Spring. :angry1:

I have new seats out of a 2002 that will go in in front, and I'm still looking for rears that I want out of either a Burb or a Tahoe.

The side panels were rotted and are gone.

Anything else will be going back in. I hope.

Yay. More updates:

1. Patched, primed, and painted (for now) holes in the cab over the driver's side door, and under where the weatherstripping was against the cab. Also got rid of the rust and gunk along the bed sides, primed, and painted all of that. I expect that will keep for now. The tops of the bed sides are not as smooth as the cab, but apparently I had got in there good with the grinder. Good news? no rust.

2. Seats are in the truck for the first time in two years. Getting some steel next to bolt the seats down and get ready to drive.

I was going to edit that post and put in pics, but since Brian jumped in...lol

OK, here's the old cab rust:

Here's the new spot, after the fix:

Here's the pic of the "completed" bed sides and back of the cab for the new gasket, also with the dome light wire hole filled and removed:

I posted this elsewhere here, but the sunshades are done. I hope to have much done this week on vacation....lol
