With all the talk about safety and rollovers I've been looking into harness's.

I searched and read but haven't really seen a post consisting of who has a harness, how many mounting points and favorite flavors.

I'm heading to Summit this weekend and seriosly considering two of these... http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=RCI-9210D

I went with harnesses when I priced retractable belts-- they were about the same. Now that I've actually got a full cage, the harnesses make sense =))

I didn't bother with the submarine strap, aka the vasectomy-on-a-stick , and on mine the shoulder straps combine, so I guess you'd call that three-point. Originally I attached the harnesses using the factory lap belt bolts on the side, and took the shoulder strap to the front mount of the back set, on the floor, if that makes sense. As I finish the cage work I'll do up cage mounts for the harnesses.

These are what I have in mine, mrk5 has the same ones.

You can probably pick them up quite a bit cheaper on ebay or from someone who races, IIRC they can only use them for a year or two before they have to replace them to meet spec.

Thanks - I'll check them out at the store also. About the submarine belt, can that just be left unhooked with the rest cliped together?

I don't use the submarine belt and I usually don't wear the shoulder harnesses. The harness works just fine as a lap belt or a 4 or 5 point harness.

Yep, I like them just fine. I just use the lap belt. Never been in a situation where I felt I needed a full harness, at least not in my truck.

I picked up 3 seperate sets for $30-$45 each all from guys who drag race and had to replace them with newer dated belts!:D Work fine as lap belts using OEM bolt in locations, as I haven't had mounts added for the shoulder harnesses yet.

i have the RCI ones your looking at. they are very well crafted and very sturdy. around town i will use the lap belt but on the trail i usually use atleast one shoulder harness. i didnt even bolt in the nut strap. i got the ones with the latch, i didnt like the camlock design.

I bought my 5 point from Peak Racing Equipment, similar too the RCI, it's 3" belt also. I just use the 4 points, I don't like the nut crusher either.

I have the RCI ones you are looking at just with red belts in 3 inch. I like them. I usually use lap belt, on trails I sometimes use the shoulder straps and when the Colorado Crew takes me on a trail that makes me scream like a little girl I have used the sub belt a time or two.

I have a set of belts from Crow in my truck now. They are very nice belts. I have the 4pt setup like the sand cars use with then integrated 4pts. The shoulder harness belts are not seperate from the laps, they are connected permenently. I like them for the fact that the shoulder belts have the big pad sewn into them for comfort on the trail, and it also makes me use the 4pts more then I would if they were seperate.

I don't wear the 4pts normally, I just loosen them up and tuck them around the outside of my seats, but if I am starting to get into something a little hairy I just have to reach back and put them on and tighten them down. I really am starting to dig the integrated 4pts especially since I am starting to put the truck into more and more places I probably shouldn't.

I am getting more used to them to. I drive to the obsticle with the laps, and when I get there I just toss on the shoulders in seconds and I am done.

Thanks for the input folks. I went to Summit Racing on Saturday and checked out the RCI belts and tehn realized that the 3" design would likely make me just not put them on at all. I may either find a 2" design (which wasn't in stock at Summit to look at) or install newer model shoulder belts.

I know myself to well to think that bouncing around for several hours, with getting in and out of the truck several times, I'd likely skip hooking the belts and waste money. And not have them on when I really needed them.

One other thing, most belts come in two lengths, 55" and 62".... where do I measure myself so I can order the correct length belts?

Your inseam of course. :haha:

I think the real answer is from the mounting point to the center. But I'm certainly no expert, i just couldn't resist the chance to use a smilie.

I bought the corbeau ones. They are a bit easier to get in and out of on the trail and the soulder straps are fixed to the lower belt. Its a common auto seatbelt release. If you dont want the shoulder straps you just dont put your arms through them and they rest behind you.

Where did you get those? Are the strap parts plastic or metal?

I got them from www.racingseatsonline.com . The strap adjusters are metal, I think thats what you're refering to. This style is a lot easier to get in and out of than the other designs. Even if you get it down so its fast for you, your passangers are always trying to figure out how to latch them like its a damn puzzle. Id rather they be able to click in quickly and be over there adjusting the belt tighter instead of still tryin to latch it. If you can't tell, I dont like to wait...

I have the sames ones in my truck. I like the ease of puting them on in a click. Some of the people that bum rides from me arent smart enough for anything else.:haha:
