The Safety Harness Post

One of my jeep buddies has the corbeau and he likes them.
I have the RCI's with the camlock on a set of PRP seats in the front. You can not not use the sub belt with the cam lock. The camlock is attached to the sub belt. I don’t mind the sub belt so much.
I street my rig quite a bit and when I was doing the research about belts I found quite a bit of info about subing with 4 points. Mostly on ricers as that is where you see a lot of prople use the corbeau's. You dont sub with 3 point because your body folds over and to the center. Keeping your head in the center of the rig and safer.
I always wear the lap belts and often the shoulder belts, I like the safe feeling and it drastically decreases the aches and pains from a day on the rocks. I usually only take the shoulder straps off when I need to lean out to see.
I put the summit plastic seats in the rear with the latch style so that my rear passengers have the option to use or not use the sub belt.

right or wrong their in.

I finally bought, cut, welded and painted the shoulder support bar. I know the bar is supposed to be even with the shoulders and or the mounting point should be higher but the length of the straps made it impossible to mount any higher up. I guess the normal mounting point is in a cars "C" pillar but that would make wieird angles and go right accross the back seat passengers.

There is no other option - the harness's are cranked down as far as they can go. Also the seat backs are above my shoulders.

Weld another tube up higher , add a brace between them . The harnesses will just have some tag end after attaching them higher .

You can also add some kind of plates with holes to both sides of the seat back, and punch a hole in the seats , to make a hole for the harnesses in those seats , think two hawse fairleads .

add whatever you need to that bar/cage .

You'll loose a little ease of entry into the back seat area . But that better than any possible injury to your spine .

Can't play with your kids if you can't walk right !!

The lenght of the shoulder straps is simply to long - that is the closest to the "horizontal plane" of my shoulders it can be. the straps are cranked all the way to the lap belt, the "tag end" is fully exposed.

Adding another bar would be where I started - right at the bend in the tube, but then soon realized that wasn't going to work.

Edit: I'm not trying to argue with anyone I just dont really understand if hanging upside down why it makes a difference where the bar is. Also without sh!tcanning the belts - there is no other option.

Well , I'll just keep my mouth shut then . I will remember to get the right harnesses off ebay ( I have no real money ) for my build . And take care of myself .

Sorry if I care about everyone , just heard another wheeler died this weekend .

And now that the wheeling has gotten harder , I am being more and more serious about this stuff . I am being serious with my safety before my budget truggy ( frame and cage 50 bucks from FWP ) even leaves my yard . Seats with holes , and bars where it needs to be , and harnesses that fit .

Like I said - I'm not trying to argue I just dont understand what the difference is.

I tried to mount the shoulder straps as high up to shoulder level as possible and even tack welded the bar and tabs and mocked up everything. I got in the seat and in normal driving position with the straps tightened as much as possible you could still stack two of me between the belts and the seat. Yeah I’m a skinny little puke just like your thinking.

So the only option in my mind was to tighten everything up and place the bar as needed to take the slack out of it.

I just got off the phone with Corbeau, the story is this: They recommend the mounting of the bar nearest the shoulder height for impact purposes. If you cannot mount it shoulder height you should mount it as far back to absorb the impact shock. If you’re not concerned with frontal impact at speeds then the only thing to be concerned with is the strap falling off your shoulder, which is why I ran the straps through the headrest supports.

Now Pauly383 maybe what you were trying to tell me is this: They also stated that if strap length is a problem you can cut the strap where sewn into the adjustment ring as needed. This was not in their instructions and certainly not my first inclination – cutting new seat belts just seems like a problem waiting to happen.

So I’m planning on modifying my whole roll bar system into a cage so all this is academic and will remain until that time and if the “real money” for my build is available.

I am not butt hurt , I also am not intent on arguing for arguing . I was just saying what I was told from both the harness manufacturers literature , and from posts on many boards . Some of which I am posting here so you can know the difference . Theres always options . You may want to invest in the correct seats for use with harnesses ( when you can . I horsetraded for mine as an example ) .

Borrowed from here : http://willraceforfood.blogspot.com/2008/01/proper-racing-harness-mounting.html

The belt will actually crush your shoulders upon impact instead of doing its job to hold you back from flying out the front wind shield because the belt will pivot the force of the impact downward onto your shoulders

My posting in the garage has nothing to do with my abilities to make some trail runs sticky in the Rocky Mountain region , which is the ONLY place I have moderator duty .

If being a moderator means I can't speak my mind at times , then I just want to be a regular member , one that wheels as often as I can when I have time and money , and read everything I can get my hands on when I don't have the time and money .

Good day sir .

I didn't even see this reply until I had posted up my last one , which took about 24 minutes with customers in the store , and pulling up the pics from the net , and trying to word things .

When you do make the changes you plan on , I would love to see the pictures . I look a lot , even if i don't post in a thread , I read a lot of the build threads , and love when guys upgrade their rigs and post pics .
