The Shop Truck

1971 Chevy C20 with a custom flat bed.
This is what I used:

We just had to use a very light touch on the trigger to not beat the sh*t out of the firewall.
We finished prepping the firewall for bedliner today. We're hoping to get that on tomorrow.

I also addressed a minor rubbing issue with the front tires when the bags are dumped. You can see on the old inner fenders where it hit.

I brought that whole area up as high as I could without modifying the fender itself so we should be good now. All of the box part will be hidden under the outer fender so I'm not too worried about looks here.

We have tomorrow off, we're hoping to get the inner fenders, firewall and a couple other parts coated in bedliner tomorrow. Then I'll be able to start putting things back together and figuring out the wiring.

We sprayed the first parts with the Sweet Patina N1 bedliner. I'm pretty happy with how it looks, although I got it a bit thick on the "tool trays".

It's 4-6 hours before I can flip the inner fenders to get the other side, so they'll likely have to wait until tomorrow. I'm going to rearrange the shop and get the firewall masked off so we can get that sprayed today now.

Well, it was a lot of work, but I think it looks fantastic now. We carefully set it up so I wouldn't get overspray on everything.

The first coat went down nice, there were still some thin spots, but we finally had an idea of what it was going to look like.

One more coat and it looks awesome!

Tomorrow I'll coat the tops of the inner fenders and start working on cleaning the core support up for paint (it's just getting black hammered rustolium).

What type of gun (or self contained spray can) do you use for application?

It's just a standard cheap shutz gun.

I bought the 1 gallon kit and it came with the gun. I just cleaned up with Xylol.
I couldn't resist pulling the masking tape off and getting a picture. I'm so happy with how this came out.

Good thing you pulled the tape.
You kind of have to with that stuff. It won't peel off later if you let it fully dry.

After a ton of work, it's finally ready to start going back together, although that will be a long process as I'm going to be reworking the wiring, brake lines ,and power steering lines, but at least we're moving in the right direction. I cleaned and painted the core support along with various other small parts, then I pressure washed the front part of the frame, cleaned it up a bit and painted what you'll be able to see from the engine compartment.

Once I get some help to push it back in the shop, I'll start bolting parts back on. Hopefully I can get a picture tonight with the core support and inner fenders bolted on.

I'd like to do something similar with mine some day.
Did a light version while the motor was out, (one of the times ) but never a full on like you did.
I Like the way it's looking.:waytogo:.

One thing you may have a problem with on that, is the textured liner is hard to keep clean looking.
Dust catches on every little angle and ledge in the texture. Amd it's hard to wash off.
Bests practice is don't let it sit on there long when you see it starting.

Being rubberized, maybe you could spray tire shine on it, and help keep it from settling or sticking... :dunno:

Being a bedliner, I'm hoping it's not too hard to keep clean, it has a fairly hard surface. I do try to keep it clean in the engine bay.
Brown Santa stopped by and dropped off a couple things I've been waiting quite a while for. Dual 16" Delta PAG brushless fans to upgrade the existing DC ones and a Delta PAG oil cooler.

I also decided to upgrade the relay box in the toolbox to a Leash one.

Ive used a mix of Dawn dishsoap, and Simple Green with a soft bristle brush to clean the bedliner on my tailgate after getting oil and grease on it…worked pretty good.

We started reassembling today! It's looking pretty good now.

It took us way longer than it should have to install 2 of the 3 firewall insulation panels that I bought from LMC. Their plastic clips absolutely do not fit, so I'm using the factory rubber ones. Once we got that in I started planning out some of the wiring changes.
IMG_20260221_161535105_HDR.jpg

It will probably take me most of the week to get the wiring sorted out, then it should get exciting quick as I'll be able to put the engine and trans back in.
