'83 K5 6.2L Diesel 64" rear springs. 3/4 ton axles. rear discs. Boring but works!

Took the blazer on a nice day trip today up to Crescent Junction into the bookcliffs and came out Thompson Springs. Pretty much just easy dirt roads but still fun for the fam. No issues with the blazer other than lots of black smoke following me on the highway. Think I'll turn down the injection pump this week and see if that helps. About 125 miles total I think.

Make me think theres a giant saxophone under the dirt

Ok the black smoke had to go. I even felt bad for the people following me on the highway. I removed the air cleaner, cruise control actuator and throttle cable and bracket. I pulled the little cover on the driver side of the injection pump and made the wife bar the engine over until the screw was lined up. I turned it down roughly 1/6 of a turn I think and put it back together. I adjusted my idle down a quarter turn and cranked up the high idle adjustment until it was actually doing something. I plugged the vacuum hose going to the egr solenoid and removed the hose to the egr valve and plugged the hole in the air cleaner base. I took it for a test drive and now just a slight black haze like it should be. Truck yeah!!!

It was cloudy and cooler today so I picked up some meguiars clean and wax on the advice of a buddy who used to do dent removal to try and remove some of the oxidation on my paint. It turned out way nice. A few more times doing it in the future and it should be good for a while. Oh and I also found some tire shine in my garage.

I changed my v-belts yesterday and added the missing one for the ac . The comp turns good by hand and it looks like the system was updated to R134a in 2001. I vacuumed and recharged it and it seems to work just fine. After a little run time the belt stretched and squeals so I need to readjust them all. So far the only thing that doesn't work on this thing is my washer pump but that's no biggie. In the next few days I need to weld on some tow points front and rear and weld on my front bump stop extensions. Ive got new hoses for the axle vents and I need to find a cb antenna. That might be it before the bash.

I'm just looking for a magnet mount one. What you got? That would be awesome cuz my one source in town doesn't have what I need and im not sure if I will make it to Green River to check the truck stop this week.

It's a firestick so it needs a screw in base. Let me know if you want it

Axle vents are done, did them while waiting for paint to dry on a dresser project the wife was doing. Front bumpstops will just take a little welding when I weld on the tow points. Rear bumpstops will come later when i come up with a design.

Found some old 6"angle brackets at work made out of 5/8" ? Thick steel and already had a 1" hole in them. I cut them up into shackle tabs and welded them on today. Turned out good. Could have trimmed them shorter so they didn't stick out so far but oh well.

I figured my washer pump was shot from old age so I picked up this nifty little kit from Napa. P/N 665-1616. It's a replacement pump to add to the system since mine is part of the wiper motor and I didn't want to spend $70+ on a new motor. The kit was $22 my cost through work. I had to remount my res since my bigger battery kicked it out if it's original home. KIMG0460.jpgI swung it over into the corner where the firewall meets the fender and just uuseda couple sheet metal screws to attach it to the sound proofing crap. I installed the pump juet above it on the inside of the fender. I didn't want to cut off the factory connector so I installed a few male spades and stuck them in with some dielectric grease and taped it up good. Works perfect. Prob way more pressure and flow than the other one anyway.

I also fixed my dome lights. The one under the dash just needed a new bulb. The top two had a bad ground that I finally tracked down to a pinhole in the wiring under the carpet next to the driver seat allowing the wire to rot from inside the insulation. I welded on some 1 1/2" spacers for my front bumpstops.
KIMG0462.jpg KIMG0463.jpg KIMG0464.jpg sorry for crappy night time pics. Time to go get Chinese and go home. Yum yum .
