If you were going to build the ultimate K5 how would you do it? What axles, engine, transmission, transfer case would you put in it. How about suspension, tires, rims, brakes? Interor, exterior, paint?

Me: Supercharged bigblock "w" snorkel, built Th400, np205 or atlasII, unimog or rockwell 2 tons, 8" to 10" all spring lift, 40" to 42" tires, cut the body if needed. Primer outside, rock sliders, rhino lined or similar interior, full cage, nice racing buckets with 5 points, all gauges replaced in dash. High clearance bumpers front & rear, winch mounts front & rear. Spare tire/gas can carrier, roof rack, high lift jack. :D

Welcome to the site.

Read some posts for a while and you will have a pretty good idea.

Well I agree with all that, but replace the th400 with the hydro clutched SM465 and run a triple stick doubler t-case. I'd go 2in body lift, and about 12in suspention lift. that way you can completely clear the tires.

Sell the K5 and use the money to buy tube to build a 2 seater buggy. It would run a SBC350 with some aluminum goodies, built 700r4 mated to 2spd Stak t-case.
Axles would be 1 tons, welded with 5.13's.
Steering would be full hydro running a double ended ram.
Suspension would be dual triangulated rear running 18" coilovers. Front would be triangulated 3 link with the same CO's.
Tires would be 42" Iroks wraped around 17" walker's

:p:

well with mog axles all you need is 4 inch or so of lift because of the portals and than run 42's, (4inch TC fronts and stock rear with 1inch zero rate and 4inch shackle flip)
i would run a 557BBC
i would have an SM465 with hydro clutch and its gotta be a doubler
And for running gear its gotta have CV'ed shafts front and rear
and of corse mog axles with military Portals!
YESSSSSSSSSS

your just jelous ive been talking online with hott babes all day!!!!!!!!!lol

I have ~4" of lift and clear my 37's just fine.:D

If you are gonna run 14" of lift on a K5 ya might as well chrome the shocks and everything. Cause it will only be useful at the mall. Thats just way to tall to be practical. It would ride like crap. 12" springs should only come chrome plated:haha:

Anyway ultimate hmm. I think a newer motor like Ryan B's 6.0 for great power and reliability. A turbo 400 with an Atlas or a Stak case. Linked front and rear. Mog axles and 40's or 42's on some double beadlocks. All the bumpers sliders cage etc is a given.

Could work.

Could also do a LOT less lift -- say, the 4" from doing the 52/56 thing -- and just cut sheet metal. Winch mounts front and back sounds like you are thinking reciever tubes, which will KILL you approach/exit angles.

Axles, you could do that, or you could do D60/14 or D60/D60 or 70, or whatever.

You must, however, ABSOLUTELY, start with a 73-75 K5, as they are The One, The True, The Only Blazer. (Let the flamewars begin! :haha: )

The only reason these things have sheetmetal on them is too allow you to save money for tube or tube chassis:D

seeing as how my truck is a "nice truck", "show truck", (any other name non wheeling K5's are referred to on this site) my ultimate K5 would be nothing like your ideas. :D

I would venture to say that starting with ANY first gen would be the hot ticket... if you can find one that isn't rotted, you are good to go...

No fun if you can't wheel it.;)

I'm talking a streetable rig. Should have been more specific. :(

"Streetable" is also a relative term.

There are trucks here running 44's and huge lifts all the time and are street legal. But a tube buggy is not what I had in mind. Then again everyone does have their own idea of what ultimate would be. I just figure if you loose the body it's not really a K5 anymore.

Just start with a K5 that already has fuel injection, buy a doubler, crossover with hydro assist, put some 1 ton diffs. on it, lift it 4 inches, hack the **** out of the fenders and put the biggest tire on it you can fit, then throw away the doors, top, tailgate and go wheeling. I would say that is almost a bulletproof recipe for success.

That is what I did exept I still need the doubler, Dana 60 and the crossover:rolleyes: , maybe some day when the kids finish school which should only take like 10 years more :doah:
