The "under destruction builds" supersize75k5 's driveway of despair and repair

Fixed that for ya:thumb:

:( you guys have no faith:popcorn:

Btw took it out to test it last night after the alignment "bought the Firestone life time alignment for 179.99 or so:woot:" and the truck rode fine, rubs a bit but I expected it to. This truck has rear abs so it was a bit odd, we had a huge storm That dropped snow in the high country so there was lots of slick mud, not sure if it was the abs or tq management but it felt unpowered and goofy. I did turn off the rear traction control but it still didn't feel normal. I dunno.

Other than tire noise I like it. Tires are toyo mt load range E, wheels are Racelines and the lift is a tuff country with a 1 piece subframe and spindles. I figure the 1piece subframe should help it live a while. No plans to wheel it but after getting stuck a few times it's nice to have tires that are more aggressive with a decent foot print.

With the buggy project in full swing I'm financially not in the mood to do a solid axle. If I buy another truck for work maybe, but for now.. No.

I am happy to say the runner up for some loving $$ and parts/repairs is the 07, I sure am starting to miss it and it just stares at me everytime I walk near it lol. With the buggy done I am thinking about finally finding a new body style cab for it with a 09 style gmc front clip to match the tow rig and fiberglass bedsides. Been looking but the cabs have not found me yet.

Turbo lag/ throttle lag??? First time I went off road in some sloppier mud in my duramax it felt weird as well. Now I put it in tow haul and keep the boost above 5psi so when you mash it, it goes!! It just doesn't have the throttle response a gasser does.

Sounds about right, so advice then is to spool up to 2000 rpms or so first, got it:thumb:

On the buggy front,

found a cool stereo, its a marine water proof, 40wattx4 "so they say" with pre outs and a mp3-usp set up. mounts in a standard 3" gauge cut out:thumb::thumb:

I wish it had blue led lighting but ill settle I suppose.

Currently working on the seat sliders, mounting the remote oil filter, ign switch, painting parts and such.

That Remote is definitely the way to go. All the major manufacturers of stereos make remotes like that. Some have screens, some don't.

I've installed 3 or 4 in boats, and we're going to put one in my friend's FJ40.

That's cool, might be stealing that for when I get to the interior of my truck. I was planning on running an iPod nano right into a marine amp since it's the same price or less than most head units and it has a built in FM tuner.
That thing is pretty cheap though for being your head unit as well as a little amp. You'll have to let us know how it sounds. What speakers are you running?

Oh, no way. It looks VERY similar to the clarion remote.

cool deal for the price.

For the price I thought so, I've ran it in the house for a few days off and on on a car battery and so far I like it.

I picked up a tuffy jeep console with a padded rest and mount for what looks to be a jeep 8" stock sub or what ever size they are. Ill put the ipad via a usp extenstension in the console velcro strapped down.

Looked into it more, don't htink it has preouts

Sure that isn't you aux in?

What price where those new harnesses you where modeling the other day? What are you shooting for the first trst n tune day?

Been having fun in the new duramax though, the increased surface area and ground clearance is working nicely:whistle:

So now that you have had it a while what do you think about the dmax vs 6.0? Worth it to get the dmax over the 6.0 even if you don't haul stuff very often? Worth it despite the increased maintenance costs and potential for injector replacement and all that stuff? Or do you think the cheapness of operating the 6.0 works out better? Great shots BTW!

My last work truck "the 4 door 07 was" a duramax as well. It had 227k or so on it with no repairs other than a broken wire to the fuel pressure regulator. I have no complaints other than parking it.

The 06 had 192k miles with a 6.0 gas, original trans made it to 18x.xxx something.

Towing wise, stock for stock the 06 with the 6.0 will tow what I need with stock size tires on it. With stock 4.10 gears and 35's it hated me though while towing hills. The 6.0 motors I have had I have never seen over 13 mpg and the drink gas with a load as well as screaming the rpms on big hills. Once that truck was regeared to 4.88's with 37's it felt just right again after i took the heavy utility bed off.

The trouble free but expensive to repair if needed 07 duramax never gave me any issues towing. Best unloaded mpg's I ever saw was 18.7 hand calculated on a trip where I filled up, drove to the grand canyon and back and refilled at the same station. That was with hills, some scenic driving and exploring too.

Between those two trucks the 07 d max is the winner, the power even with a loaded utility bed always left a smile on my face but with high miles and unavoidable expensive repairs I elected to send it down the river.

I actually wanted to get a single cab 5.3 truck for my new work truck, upgrade the rear axle and put the utility bed or a top on it and a tuner.

I chose just to get a duramax because that still left me with the high mile 07 d-max truck for long towing trips. I would get a new 6.2 gasser but after having the dmax I could not see towing heavy any other way.

In the future or when a cash deal comes along or the next body style I want a single cab 5.3 gmc.

Towing wise, the 6.0 will do it

Good review! Pretty much just what i was after. I think i will probably stick with the 6.0 unless i decide that im rich some day.

Nothing wrong with that motor and parts are cheap and everywhere:thumb:

if you get bored toss a cam and a tune on it and peal out:woot:

Radiator mount, still getting the trans cooler and oil cooler and fans set up but I love it!:thumb:

Also the fuel cell mount is finished up and ready to head off to powdercoat in the next couple days, came out sharp.

next up is the moving the motor back 1.5 inches and maybe up as well. So new motor mounts and trans mounts, plus's outweigh the headache though so its worth it. Will get the tubing, sleeves, bushings and hardware sorted out and they should come out nice.

still do not have my switch panel so the interior cant be finished yet:tongue1:

So far things are great with the new duramax, had to travel a lot lately and am loving it. Went up to the white mountains to springerville to pick up my grandparents 32 foot 5th wheel and superduty during a storm. Road conditions sucked! Didn't see another foolish soul on the road for miles and miles and had their been anyone they could have passed and I might have never known. But did stop and play a bit when it cleared up, nothing impressive but fun none the least. I will say the traction control and abs is a godsend.

I had my friend on a 2 way radio in front of me a ways helping me look for elk or cars so i didn't have to panic stop, dually and trailer were all over with ice and cross winds. Fun trip in many ways.
