Super, at this point I would be looking to see if there is something wrong with your setup. Trans getting too hot? Driveshafts bottoming? VSS confusing the 'puter and screwing something up. The 4L80 is supposed to be a pretty stout transmission, of course, I don't think they had you in mind when they designed her. :o

This trans and converter was my 1st built set up. Previously I had just thrown a stocker in to get the truck back on the road. This trans and converter felt nice and tight, damn near felt perfect...go figure the case would get broke:doah:

-Heat definitely was a problem prior, I have sense ditched the factory fan and went to a dual fan set up, no more over heating issues on the motor or the trans.

-low fluid had also been an issue, at some point, not sure how many transmissions or moons ago I got the wrong dipstick mixed in.:doah: This wrong dipstick was leaving me 2-3 quarts low and resulted in burning it up.. compounded with the radiator not getting enough cooling. This killed at least 2 of them.

-torque converter was one of the failures, something went inside it and it sounded like Ashly Simpson concert as it screamed at me.

Being my set up is divorced, the t-case is fixed and the drivelines can not bottom out into the trans.

It looks like

A-trans mount failed, trans shifted and put a angle on the jack shaft

B- U-joint on the jack shaft failed from abuse or fatigue



Im going to change the transmission mount to bushings on the frame to eliminate the stock ones failing "I have killed 5-6 of those"

I will also add a drive shaft loop, and may change the jack shaft over to 1350 joints from the 1310 it has now.


Ill get her figured out, my desire for lunacy depends on it:D
 
Or we could just build this instead. Then you would have the 07 for "mild driving" and the 05 for when your'e serious

Up till the last one, not really.

This one is the same guts as the last one just a new housing, seals, o-rings or what ever was needed. IIrc is has a stage 2 shift kit, carbon fiber band an upgraded sprag of some sort, upgraded clutches throughout and a bitchen tq converter from road runner converters here in town.

Bunch of cool crap.

I have addressed the heat issues, the tq issues, the 1st gear clutch burning up issue, the front pump on one and some other crap. The last one was world different form the prior and stock units. Before I could have my foot to the floor with the tires bound up and they would not break loose. Now all 4 tires will spin.. or something breaks:D
 
Maybe go with an Allison... would that be tough enough?

Either way its pretty impressive all the 4l80e's you've finished off. you kill them like the rest of us kill 700R4's

And oddly enough I have yet to kill any 700r4 that I did own. WTF

If I do change again I am thinking nv4500. An allison would be great but if this one goes up in flames and cant be fixed I have no energy left for an auto in it.

Some of it is dumb luck, some is abuse, some of it is stupidity and some of it just is what it is. Im no longer upset, frustrated or mad about it. I just deal with it and let it sit for a month or two if I am not interested in fixing it.. well its been two months:D

I figure all the down time sure is keeping my miles down though..

well for now it lucks out.. transmission went in last night with out any trouble. I just need to purchase some trans line fly through the air and get lost when you put em on clip thingys, some head lights, and supports..remount the tail light that fell off, replace the shift cable that broke and toss in the new jack shaft.


Time for at least two new tires sadly or maybe a new set. I REALLY want to run the 40 inch ltb but im hearing its back ordered:doah:
 
Came home.. finished up the trans install and cleaned things up.. then..my definition of a fender bender happened this afternoon.

Any one want to take a guess?:whistle:
