The Willomet Charger

A desecration to Mopar nuts everywhere, this is my protouring, LS-powered, 1970 Dodge Charger; built at my shop, Willomet Motor & Fabrication.
I thought I remembered you were going to move the engine slightly towards the passenger side. I'm I misremembering, or did you change your mind?
I did that with the last frame design (that’s a new sentence). This one is centered.

Holy fuggin front meats.
And there’s more than enough room to put 325s. The car is huge.

glad to see the availability of time coming your way again!
Same here man. It’s the same good feeling as when I was building the suburban suspension in 2020. Fab and weld every day. I’ve got a goal to have it able to be on its own weight - even if it’s a little shaky - before I head to SEMA.

At times, a manufacturer does something that fails to inspire confidence.

Points to whoever identifies what is egregiously wrong in this fusillade of photos.

By the way, this is the only place I can share this stuff in full bluntness.

x2. That's what they provided? There may be an O-ring to AN adapter out there that drops in.

Wrong fitting, and also the sealing surface of the bung where the copper washer (would) seal is hammerphucked haha

I'm thinking the part that threads into the female piece is probably supposed to be metric o-ring or similar?
Your eyes do not deceive you. A normal metric o-ring to AN would be just fine.

And why in the heck is it AN on both sides.
It gets worse. The female threads are M12x1. The AN5 with 1/2-20 isn’t even close.

Not exactly the size but this style
Dead on. Found all the fittings at summit, but it sticks in my craw to have to go and fix something that’s brand new.

Super stupid, right? Pop a copper washer on what’s obviously not a sealing surface? I had a frank chat with those folks. We’ll see what they choose to do.

It’s an ultra common 45” rack, and Holley has a DSE one that would swap in pretty easily, so I do have a backup.

Frame extension and sway bar are in and fit snugly. Cycling the suspension, everything clears from lock to lock. I’ll pull this all back apart, brace, and burn it all in.

Carbon hood and truck lid from Speedkore arrived yesterday. These are raw and straight out of the autoclave. Apparently we can treat them just like steel in body prep.

It may be camera perspective, but the engine looks small between those front meats.

Great video David! Exciting to put parts in place, great details on the chasing threads too.

Many small bits of progress. First, all clamps are out of the car.

It's the little things, but it felt like a real change to not have tooling stored in the car any more.

Cleaned up the rear axle, and started rough assembly in preparation for fixing it all in place in the car.

Picked up some used C6 parking brakes to see what I might adapt for a the car. The answer is, "not much." Still working on this problem, since the unit bearing is about the size of a half ton truck, so nothing off the shelf fits.

Mockup MSD intake is pretty neat.

Tires are set. Front is 305/30R19, rear is 325/30R19

And everything doesn't fit, exactly as planned. Lot so tin work ahead.

IMG_5877.JPEG

The rear quarter was needed so I could place the tire in the opening. The original location is a bit too far rearward for my eyes, so I pushed it forward 3/4" so the profile of the tire nested well with the front wheel opening.

The 325s are pushed flush with the quarter by design.

Next up, front frame horns.

Nice progress. Racks for tools are important. I hate tools lying around.

I was explaining a Watts link to a guy at a car show this weekend. His panhard bar was at enough of an angle, that when he laid frame, the left dually hit the fender. I deducted for that in judging. Went back later to talk to him. He was too ignorant to understand how it works. Still wants to have it done if it keeps the housing centered.
