well, i passed on buying my one ton back a few months ago. it just had too much rust. well, i stumbled upon this over the weekend. it's a 1985 k20 scottsdale. 10bolt front, 14SF rear, 454, th400, and im not sure what case. it is sitting on ground hawgs. it does have a little bit of rust in the rockers and on the back cab corner on the drivers side. (you can see it in the pics) the truck used to be baby blue, but the guy had it painted this color.

i hope to go look at it again tonight, and hopefully bring it home. anyhow

anybody know if this was a factory color?

also, is fixing the rust going to be a nightmare since the paint looks so good.
i really dont want to repaint the whole truck.

enjoy...

if it's just the rocker, you could probably just panel paint it and get away with it not being overly noticable..

even tho it's a metallic, which brings a whole bunch of issues to the mix..... it's much harder to match.... it generally needs to be "blended" into adjacent panels much moreso than a solid color does.. a bodyshop would more than likely blend it in to the door, cab corner and such to make it look like nothing ever happened....

whether it's a factory color or not, can't say... I'm sure someone will chime in with that's blah, blah GM charcoal #, and it could be, but it could be a Honda color for all you know...

color chip sheet will help, if you have the right books... I had about every color known to man from 1960 to 1990..

but more than likely in this case, the best option will be to just go to an autobody supply place and have em snap a pic of it with the color matching gun... they usually get pretty balls on formulas that way... and get a pint of that basecoat... Dupont is a common one for that color matching, usually I'll use their chromabase..

but, as I mentioned earlier, it's metallic, so lot's of factors come into play, spraying technique being the biggest issue... how it's shot will greatly affect what the end color is, how the metallics lay out, darkness, etc... unlike something like corvette yellow, etc..

an experience collision painter can adjust for this in his spray techniques and blending..

I know a guy that had a 1985 k30 that was that color, his was factory.

But like Paul said...:dunno:

That's a Good looking truck! :thumb:

Looks really nice. We need some more pics though to see what it's like underneath.

I love that color. My first 79 was a very similar metalic grey. Was a repaint though.
