Thinking about tracked vehicles

the BMP was a deathtrap anyway! cool looking tho.......

This reminds me of how much i miss the MT-LB I had, when I was in the army:(

It looked like this:
s_pbv401side2.jpg

And sounded like this :D

It's probably the loudest APC or Tank in the Swedish army, with it's 14.8 litre almost un-mufflered diesel V8 :D

The drivetrain is all mechanical, with a 6-speed manual transmission with only 4th to 6th gear synchronized (or so they claimed, but I swear they're all unsynchronized :screwy:)

You steer it with levers, and the tricky thing is that the turning radius gets wider the higher gear you're in.

So it could get a little stressful, coming down a hill in 6th gear, seeing a sharp turn coming up, where you need to swap to 3rd gear to be able to take the turn :eek1:
(did I mention it's unsynchronized ;) )

But in spite of all this (or maybe thanks to), it was really fun to drive :D

Yeah, we bought a bunch from former DDR, in the early nineties I think.

Nope, but it is pretty cool isn't it:D

But speaking of home-made track-vehicles. I just remembered about a Swedish guy who built a pretty cool little thing, with the drive-train from a diesel-Volvo, and a set of rubber-tracks from the swedish BV202

Ah cool. What'd you guys use them for?

That thing is pretty neat.

That thing is pretty neat.

We used it as a troup carrier for an anti-tank squad, armed with "Robot 56 Bill"
But they where also used as regular infantry troup carriers.

Cool, probably a Bofors product I'd guess.
