I'm thinking of buying one of these doubler boxes, for my K30:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/moto...5-billet-planetary-doubler-699-box4rocks.html

For this I need a passenger side drop 205 with the round bolt-pattern.
But I've realized that the chances of finding one of those over here are slim to nothing.
But I've managed to find one from a Ford instead, so now I'm thinking of flipping it to make it passenger side drop.

Has anyone here done that?

I guess I'll have to use cable shifters, since the shift rails will be on the bottom side.
And drill and tap new holes for the oil level and oil drain.
Anything else I should be aware of?

Interesting idea, You will have to plug the vent hole & add one on the new top side.

I haven't seen that box,, So you use a 241 & rob the planets out of it?

Thanks, I forgot about the vent hole, but that's an easy fix as well though.
Yep, I'll use the planetary and ring gear from an old 241.
It seems like a pretty good low budget alternative to most other doublers,
and I'm a cheap bastard:D

Nothing wrong with being cheap, I saw in that thread he also sells a Round to figure 8 adapter, it runs another $100 U.S. but that could save you some trouble.

And other than the shift rails leaking, would it oil itself correctly?

Wouldnt it be easier buying an new adapter to mate it to a figure 8 205. I mean them are pretty easy to find, I have seen 1 round bolt pattern in all my junkyard searching and truck lookings in my life.

And just seen the adapter thing was mentioned above, lol, pays to read sometimes.

way to many oiling /sealing problems. been covered before in length.

the oil drains in seal areas will be upside down / rear tail bearing will not oil correctly from slining oil as catcher will be upside down.

shift rails down low = custom shifters.

find a empty case and swap guts. or make adaptor from fig 8 to round 6 .

also j.b. conversions shows limited 3:1 205 back on for end of year. comes set up for both fig 8 and round 6.

I think the hardest part would be to keep the oil from leaking out. On mine in the correct orientation it seeps oil from the shift rails.the bearings not getting enough oil was also covered. Seems like a bad ideal.

I was thinking of going that route too, but he didn't recommended it.
I think the output shaft from the doubler got to short.

The shift rail seals leak like crazy when they're under fluid all the time

Aren't they sealed?
The front output shaft is under oil all the time :dunno:

the oil drains in seal areas will be upside down / rear tail bearing will not oil correctly from slining oil as catcher will be upside down.

Would that really be a problem?
The direction of rotation will be the same , so shouldn't the catcher work any way :dunno:

I've seen that too, but I think it's a little too expensive, and I would like even lower gearing.

Hmm, that's not a bad idea , maybe I can get him to make a longer shaft so I can use an 8-6 adapter...:waytogo:
Then I could swap in the ford internals to get it a little stronger...
Is that a direct swap btw, to swap in ford internals into a chevy fig 8 case?
If I do that, what stuff should I use from the ford, is it only the input shaft?

I was thinking the Fords use a different size input bearing than the Chevy's. Fords had 32 spline front outputs. Shift rails are a mirror image so they will not work in the Chevy case.
