Ive got a far fetched idea of getting rid of my Blazer and getting a Toyota quad cab P/up truck. If I was to sell my Blazer, I have no idea what to sell it for. There is alot of work put into it. I dont even know what the market would be like for my Blazer either. There is no way for me to get something else and keep my Blazer. Its one or the other.

In todays market you will not get not even half of what you put into it today. just look at the classified section on here you will see that people are having trouble selling their trucks. I know gas is killing everybody on top of higher food prices but if you want to get decent money for your truck you need to hold on to it longer.

The only way to get anywhere near what its worth is to finish it and sell it on a place like here to people who know what its worth?

Realistically if you have 7K into it and get 4K out of it....how much money are you saving on fuel????

Don't do it......please don't do it.

Going over to Toyota by selling off your K5 is criminal......in my mind at least.

If motivated by fuel prices and if your DD'ing your K5, just by a cheap car.

Just picked up a 97 Lesabre for $650 (not running). Fixed it all up and smogged for another $250 and getting 29 mpg for under 1k. Plan on selling it after a little while. It'll pay for itself and I'll make $$. Just an option to ease current conditions.

I want one of those too BUT Im NOT getting rid of my blazer.

Why did I put a question mark after my last statement?
I don't know? But seriously, you are going to lose a lot of money if you sell your k-5. I just picked up a new DD, a 90 ford bronco II for $500. Anything beats the big block 77 C30 dually I was DDing :o

Compact trucks only get marginally better gas mileage... and Toyota's are fairly expensive for one that would make a nice daily driver.

my dad has a 4 cyl 5 speed wrangler stock that only gets like 17mpg.

Not even worth it.

I have a sunfire for DD and it's great. about 25mpg avg. 35+ on the highway.

i cant wait the day my blazer is done im selling my 4runner and ill get top dollar for it too toyotas are just like that for whatever reason

well said! the deficit in loss alone outways any benefit to goin to a cross dd/ off road machine. if you look at it in pure dollars and cents the 3k you would be losing anyways could go for a a great dd and you call it good. i think the consensus is you keep it and park the k5 for now.

I'll have to agree on keeping the k5 and buying a beater car for now. You can pick up a 90s honda civic for cheap and they never die.

I've seriously thought of selling the Yukon because of the fiscal impact of the 31 gallon fillups.:doah: But just the other day I saw a 98 Tahoe go for $4500. I went to the stealership just to see what they'd say, and they wouldn't even consider my Yukon. And the cheapest car on the lot that got over 30 mpg's was $15k, that would make my monthly payment $70 more per month then my Yukon is. Can't do that. So, I've decided to keep the Yuke and drive it until I pay it off, then get me a small car.

I say hold on to your Blazer, and finish it, because you'll be money ahead in keeping that then getting a Toyota and buying all the super expensive parts for it. Or, you could sell it to me, but I live across the country, and the gas money I'd spend going to get yours could be better put to use building my "Earthroamer"

My $0.02

If you are getting one for gas MPG. Get the 4 banger. A buddy of mine has a crew cab Taco with the 6 /auto trans. It does not get much better MPG than my Blazer.
I get 15-16 MPG average. He gets around 16-18 average city highway.
I have a Highlander with V6. On the highway i get good MPG. But around town it gets wacked down to around 18.(full time 4x4).

Good point. My wife used to own a 2.7L 4 banger Taco before we married and that p.o.s. only got 17 mpg on the highway. I got rid of that thing.

Think about what you just said for a second.

your yukon costs AT LEAST $100 to fill, and i'm sure you fill it a few times a month.

So let's say for example you fill it twice a month that's about $200 and you can't pay $70 more a month on a payment? The gas you'd save would pay for that new car in itself.

I'm a college kid, so I fill it up MAYBE once a month, if that, and then I'm travelling with people to go places, and they help with the gas. Plus, in all honesty, I'm getting 21 mpg highway with this, the PT i used to own got an average 24, which really isn't a whole lot better. Plus, it can't take me off the beaten path.

Fair enough bud. When you're in college you really don't need a vehicle good on gas.

The only way to trade off a gas guzzler for something more economical and come out ahead is if the payment or cost of the new vehicle is offset by the gain in fuel mileage and the selling price of the old vehicle.

Unfortunately in today's market our big trucks aren't going for much at all. That's strike one.

A Toyota pickup, even a 4-cyl stick from the 80-90's, won't do much better than 20mpg and maybe a bit higher on the freeway. Strike two.

Their entry fee is high. Resale on them is incredible, the kind GM owners wish they had, so the cost of getting them is high. Strike three.

Basically you'll spend money to buy another truck right now, even a more economical truck.

The only way this swap would work is if you could sell a vehicle you had a high payment on for a cheaper vehicle that got better gas mileage. We're thinking about this with my wife's 17-19mpg Suzuki XL7 after we move south and don't need the mpg. Swaping a $250 payment for a lower payment on something that gets another 10mpg or better makes sense...paying to do so...not really.
