Has anyone ever thought about it? Use a K5 tub and mate it to a long bed to fit on a regular long bed frame.

Of course you would have to rework bed mounts and stiffen the frame a ton.

Then there is joining 2 tops to fit the new bed.
Or a custom soft top.
Hey maybe a chalet with a bigger camper....

It would be a 2 door, convertable suburban:thumb::dunno:

You can do lots of things. Think it would be easier to shorten a burb.

I dont mean to shorten anything though lol. Think of a long bed pickup modified with a uni-body blazer cab welded in.
long bed blazer lol.
like I said just thinking out loud, thing is I know MOST people want more doors not less. So it probably wouldnt appeal to many people, but it would be a cool custom none the less.

Send me whatever you're smokin that gives you these ideas. Sounds fun :)

j/k man, I'd watch a build thread of one.

Full vert longbed blazer with a soft top. Thatd be crazy lookin lol. But by that time you may as well chop the top off a burb and if you really want 2 door you can just weld the back doors shut :haha:

Might look something like this.

International made a Scout called the Traveler.
Long wheel base Scout-meets-pickup kinda thing. Just looked odd.
Not bashing your idea because I have come up with some weird ideas in the past. Something like this Photoshop is your friend.

I have always LOOOOVED International Scout II's. I named my cat Scout after my 73' I had. I want another one big time. This rig is bad ass period. I want one of those too. Love of these rigs are as close to my heart as a chevy......maybe a little less :D. Atleast the drive train.

Think you might be mixed up a bit.
Traveler was like foot and half longer I think than regular Scout II. Scout was short like a K5.
We screwed around with Scouts in the late '80s/early'90s and then went back to Chevy.
Try getting a water pump for IH in Needles at 3pm on a Saturday.:doah:
Cool in town but not for week long desert runs.
Look at this compared to the Traveler.

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear, I know the previously posted pic isn't a scout II, this blue one is. I just was not clear, sorry. thanks for noticing and clarifying it so others wern't confused.

Nah, no apologies needed. :)
Just wanted to keep the long wheel base idea upfront.
Plus I'm sure some guys on here have never seen a Traveler before.
And I agree Scouts are cool, but only if they have SBC swapped in. :haha:
Now back to the long bed idea, go Photoshop up a 8' bed to a K5 cab and see how it looks.

I love the idea, I think your idea has win all over it. Certainly would be cool in my mind

how about a lil photoshop just to see

Thats actually a lot cooler than I even thought it would be in my head. I wish I had the time and ability to actually do it but I dont. I was also thinking a soft top or a variety of soft tops such as a rear wall a full hight top and a slant back top. LOL Fun to think out loud sometimes.

As for IHC scouts.. For me I always thought they looked cool I really like the look of the older 800's and 80 models. I actually aquired a mid 60's model 80 but it was almost completely rusted. I think the paint was the only thing holding it together. AND That thing was FREAKING HEAVY for its size! Sadly it went to the scrap yard it was just way too far gone with the rust and it was really beat up anyway.

You're thinking along the lines of an unibody, much like Ford trucks did back in the 60's.

Wouldn't be too hard if you can weld sheet metal. Get your long bed frame. Cut your blazer tub about halfway between the door and rear fender well. Put on the frame and cut the front off your longbed box and graft it on the tub. Do it! I think it would be bitching and unique! Plus it would be a fun build thread for us to follow. :D
