Ok I have found a Dana 60 front and what the person claims is a dana 70 rear end out of a 77 1 ton chevy. Both complete, but dually set up. I want to put a set of 1 tons under my blazer, but am not to sure about a 70 rear end.

Is the 70 rear end worth building? Pros, Cons? Can it easily and cheaply be changed to singl wheel?

thanks a ton.

the pair complete is 850

Dana 70s have the same hub setup as 14b if I remember correctly. Which means the width is very easy to alter. As for the front you can change the hubs or you could just run h1s.

Theres nothing wrong with the dana 70 and infact has an advantage over the 14b in that there are much lower gears available.

Actually the D70 would be difficult to narrow as the stud flange is further inboard than a single wheel 14 bolt hub. For this reason swapping hubs would push the wms outward, not inward.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the D70 and run one myself but the only way I know to narrow one is to have the housing cut & shortened.

That said, the stock dually axles will allow you to run unmodified H1 wheels which have a ton of backspacing but will be too wide to run a standard offset wheel. I currently run this set up on my K5 (see sig link).
