I actually was out there two weeks before the recovery on my bike and found it buired like the first picture. The river runs right in front of glacier. The silt (finest sand you have ever seen) and gravel moves through there at an incredible rate. The day I ran across the jeep I saw three other vehicles the river had claimed.
As for the insurance company- it was totaled. The people who recovered it (a mix of two off road clubs here in Anchorage) towed it back to the main road- stripped it of usable parts, and the tub was taken by a family who is turning it a buggy.
