this kind of crap gets people hurt

Ya i think so ,but i spent 2 hours re- wiring the starter and the altenator.
But when i hit the key the buzzing noise came from the starter

Well irts not the starter or fuse so im pulling the module on the dash the key switch hooks to

One possibility--if your solenoid had 2 smaller posts ,only the "S" terminal should be hooked to the purple wire--if it was hooked to the "R" terminal it might cause what you said happened--it wont crank, and it'll energize the solenoid only--that "R" terminal was used only on engines with points,it sent 12V to the coil positive only during cranking...they finally stopped putting that terminal on the 80's trucks, but aftermarket solenoids still might have both there...

Down at the bottom of the column there is a plug that goes into the neutral safety switch. I think it has one yellow wire and one purple wire. Pull the plug off and pumper the plug and see if that works.

Should look like this,

Or maybe its just the two purples... I dont remember, either way, thats what to look for, jumper, and try that.

Some years the wires were both purple--my '82 GMC has a yellow wire (that comes from the ignition) and a purple wire that goes to the "S" terminal on the solenoid...I by-passed my neutral safety a long time ago,for multiple reasons..

my buddy in vegas also suggested i didnt get the linkage hooked up right and its not reading in park

You could CAREFULLY hold the key in the start position while running the Trans through gears to see if you can hit the sweet spot.

I just meant as a means of testing the neutral safety switch. So hold the key at start, move the shifter up and a downfrom pPark to 1st and back and see if the starter ever actuates. And just let off if it does and then you know that bypassing or fixing the safety switch would be the problem.

In other words, you wouldn't start the truck. You would just be seeing if you can get a spot that would start the truck as a means of diagnostics.

is it one of those plugs you have to push the holder to get out?
like these
