this ticks me of!!

yeah /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gifbut they sound good and they don't kill power as much as you think bigger pipes run cooler and to me are Quiter with the same type of muffler as smaller pipes And yes I do rap my motors up than most people but I'm bettin' being 16 he does to /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif also he might consider running 2-1/2 headpipes into a 2 in 1 out flowmaster and running a 3.5 inch to 4 inch tail pipe /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif

I run 3" duals on both my big blocks with good results /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif

[ QUOTE ]
I 3" duals too much for a big block?

[/ QUOTE ]

I have no idea, I've never really dealt with big blocks. I'd think that dual 3" would be a bit much for a stock or mild BB though. Not that it would matter that much with big block torque on tap. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

A mild small block just needs all the help it can get in the torque department, especially in a heavy truck. I don't understand why people put such large exhaust on when all it does is kills the power in the RPM range that the engine spends 90% of it's time in. Oh yeah, and it sounds a little different. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif Bigger does not always equal better...

*Edit*

What exactly makes you think that his small block needs the same size exhaust on your big block? It's an entirely different animal!

Bigger isn't always better your right /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif. I just don't like the sound of a motor that sounds like it has a bad head cold wheezing and rasping through small pipes and crappy mufflers /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif I like the mellow rumble bigger pipes have . I'm just saying he doesn't have to run Pep Boys granpa exhaust just to make it Quiter You can have it Quiet and still have good Flowin' System I don't think he'd lose as much power down low as you think /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif

I'd run 4" if it would clear the T-case but there just ain't room between the t-case and frame /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You must not be familiar with a quality 2.25" exhaust system on a small block. I have dual 2.25s on my truck and it does not sound wheezy in the least, it actually sounds quite nice. I'm not a fan of "loud for the sake of loud", but it has a real nice tone to it all the time and gets pretty loud when you put your foot into it.

Yes I am familaiar with 2.25 pipes that's what was on my blue stepside before I cut it off and went to 2.5 pipes cuz it seemed choked up to me . And let me tell you that thing came alive with those bigger pipe and different mufflers I like my pipes loud but I like them to have a deep tone to them I'm picky when it comes to how my exhaust sounds So I'll give up a "little" bit of low end for a system that sounds good to me /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif

Sit right back and let ole Bubba Ray spin ya a yarn about coming of age........

Back in the day, during my man-boy days, I was the owner-operator of the Red Line Oil Racing Pinto. The baddest 2000cc, 4 spd, hot rodding, off roading, air timing machine to come out of the Ford plant and it was all mine.

Throughout our time of hanging and banging with the city folk up there in the Bay Area, we had proven ourselves over and over again. We, as a team, were the most infamous two in my hood. We had tackled trails failed by the 4x4 crowd. We had taken on the fastest V-8 machines in two counties (yeah, we lost but that's not the point) and to this day, our mark in the concrete driveway still is visible to the crowds that travel to the upper parking at the Sun Valley Mall in Concord, CA. Those Duke boys from GA weren't sh*t compared to us.

Anyway, a few months before my man-boyness was to come to an end and the Red Line Oil Racing Pinto and myself were to go our separate ways forever, we moved our antics back to Bubba's home stomping grounds of the Hi-Plains of Oklahoma.

Well, one day I said to myself, "Bubba, The Red Line Oil Racing Pinto needs some more jack under the hood."

So I sat there for a few moments and pondered the thought. "What could Bubba do to add HP to The Red Line Oil Racing Pinto.?"

I replied back to myself, "Bubba, you's gots to lose the restrictive muffler."

I said, "Bubba, I do believe you're onto something besides your girlfriend for a change."

So since the exhaust on The Red Line Oil Racing Pinto was a modular setup, I had no problem loosening up the u-bolt and sliding the muffler back approximately 1 inch, then I slid into the hi-performance cockpit and in a few seconds, there was music to my ears.

So that night, it was time for Bubba and The Red Line Oil Pinto to hit the town. See if we couldn't scare up a little action.

Now if y'all have seen the pics of Bubba's hometown over on the NCBD site, y'all would know that my OG hood ain't exactly that big. So what I had to do was time the local constabulary until he was on the other side of town. Then when the coast was clear, I unleashed the fire-breathing beast of the 2000cc stock small block. Oh my God Becky, was she loud!!!!!!!!!!!! Running it up to about 4G's on the tach, my ears were a bleed'in like a stuck pig(not really, but it sounds good).

Well in no time, the local constabulary caught up to ole Bubba Ray and said "Bubba, ain't no more hot rodding 'round these parts."

"Well Mr. Lawman, I ain't hot rodding, I ain't broken the speed limit all night. It's true, it's true!"(thanks Kurt Angle)

Well Mr. Lawman wasn't happy with that, or the fact that I had to shut down the beast to be able to hear him. So he let me go with a warning and a few minutes later, I decided to call it a night.

So I go home, running about 500RPMS in 3rd gear so Bubba Sr. doesn't hear me. I walk into the house and there's Bubba Sr.

"Boy, I hear y'all been hot rodding 'round town tonight?"

Of course I'm standing there shocked. You'd think that it would be another 5 minutes or so before he heard about the antics.

So I look at him and told him I hadn't been hot rodding around town, it was just a nasty rumor. Furthermore, I told him about the HP improvement modifications I had done and he looked at me and said, "Boy, y'all will hook that muffler back first thing tomorrow morning."

Did I? Yes.

It's all about having respect for your parents cause they live there, it's their house, and it's their rules and some old boy back in the day laid down the law, "Respect thy mother and thy father." Besides, Bubba Sr. could whup my dumba** back in the day anyway so it was no contest. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Here's what i did- cut a 5" gap in front of the muffler. then get a piece of pipe and slide it engine side on the exhaust pipe, when leaving your house, have the pipe covering the gap, then after leaving slide it back. NOT WITH A BAREHAND- i accidentally did a week ago and look now!(bottom) anywho mine is 2" or 2 1/4" piping and it is the loudest thing in town. i love the way is sounds. at first i have just the gap and my neighbor who is like eleventy billion years old (keanu reeves, SNL) never said anything. OR just park it out front and idle away in the mornigs and whenever you leave. but DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT PIPES! it hurts SO bad, i dorve MAYBE 1/4 miles and then BAM!! i literally heard my skin sizzle and now have 2nd dree burn blisters, OUCH! it hurts too bad to wah all the grease off my hands and i cannot move my thumb completely out, playing baseball was horribly painful and i cannot lift weights! but straightpipes are AWESOME and my dad didn't care for about two weeks

haha that sucks!! so you touched a hot pipe? i did that once when iwas little on a rototiler and got huge blisters on my hands. i dont think im goingot go that far with this lol..im just ganna deal with these mufflers till i get some flows..like 50 series deltas or something.

My pappy said, 'Son, you're gonna drive me t' drinkin' ...
If you don't quit drivin' that - Hot ... Rod ... Pinto!'

Well, you've heard the story of the hot rod race,
When the Pinto and Bubba were settin' the pace.
That story's true it's not all talk,
Cause I was a'drivin' that little Fox.

It's got a 2000cc motor and it's really souped up;
That Pinto body makes it look like a pup.
It's got 4 cylinders and uses them all;
And an overdrive that just won't stall.

It's got a 1-barrel carb and single exhaust,
No muffler on it because it got lost-
No safety tubes but I'm not scared,
The brakes are good and the tires are fair.

We left Oklahoma late one night;
The moon and the stars were shinin' bright.
We were drivin' up Boudreaux Hill,
Cars passin us like we were standin' still.

Then, all of a sudden, in the wink of an eye,
an old lady in a Beetle done passed us by.
The remark was made, "That's the car for me."
But by then, the taillights wuz all you could see.

Well, the fellers ribbed me for bein' behind,
So I started to make that Pinto unwind.
Took my foot off the gas and, man alive,
I shoved it down into overdrive.

Well, I wound it up to 45;
A little kid on a bike just passed us by.
Had my foot glued right to the floor;
I said, "That's all there is - there ain't no more."

Now the fellas thought I'd lost all sense;
Drivin that Pinto as if it even had a chance.
They said, "Speed up, or I'll get out and run."
The milkman in his truck just made us look dumb.

Went around a corner and passed a truck;
I crossed my fingers just for luck -
The fenders clickin' the guard rail post;
The guy beside me was white as a ghost.

Smoke was rollin' outta the back
That V-dub Beetle had Bubba for a snack
I knew I could catch her and hoped I could pass
But as I did Chaz said he had gas.

There were flames comin' from out of the side;
You could feel the tension; man, what a ride.
I said, "Look out, boys, I've got a license to fly"
And the old lady pulled over and let me by.

All of a sudden a rod started knockin';
Down in the depths she started a rockin'.
I looked in the mirror and a red light was blinkin';
The cops was after my Hot Rod Pinto.

Well they arrested me and put me in jail.
I called my pop to make my bail.
He said, 'Son, you're gonna drive me t' drinkin',
If you don't quit drivin' that - Hot ... Rod ... Pinto!'

Oh yeah hey man im 16 also, But i aint gota worry aboutmy truck bein loud(single 2.5" chery bomb)its nice and quiet till you get on it. But i would just keep my outh shut about it then in about a week id just put your good stuff back on and just take it easy around the "hood".

IMO, unless you have the engine to back it up, loud exhaust (straight pipes) sound like crap... Throw a couple of 50 series flowmasters or, if your on a budget, Thrush super turbos on it, it'll sound good, but keep everyone happy. I had headers and flowmaster 40-series duals on my 93, and my old-man bitched, but whenever he drove the thing you could hear him winding her out for blocks... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

You hit that on the head! The loudest trucks are usually the ones that are bone stock. It's rare that you can hear a hotter cam or even headers in that loud exhaust tone. A nice throaty yet unobtrusive exhaust on an engine with a cam and headers is way cooler. It's also what I have on my truck... /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

if you are 16, then you are still a minor. i don't know about New York, but in Illinois, if you are under 18, whether your parents names are on the title or not, they could sell your vehicle w/o your permission. my dad threatened that with me when i was in high school when i thought that i should be able to set my own curfew.
