Is it pretty tough to turn a yoke by hand with no trans. And doubler in gear? Mine seems very tight like hard to turn. Turns smooth but has big drag. Is this normal? I know 203/205 Rob's some HP. But just seems very tough to turn by hand

It's not tough to turn mine when everything is in low but it sure isn't easy.

Actually you know I bet most would consider it tough

if almost new with assembly lube/goo / grease on bearings and all in low it will be hard .

its a lot of drag as said if all fresh together .

It's not fresh only probably at the very most is 600 miles. And full of fluid with 80-90wt with gloves turning rear drive shaft and rear end. I can barely get enough grip. But I feel better after reading responses. Thx guys

turning whole rear end / tires / doubler = a lot for man hands to do . and what tranny ? if auto and in N engine off = even harder.

Tranny isn't bolted up, and tires are off. I was able to spin it by 1 hand gripping center of drive line. Or use a pry bar on lugs to turn it. I was comparing it to a take out dry np208. I see why aluminum tcases are so popular .

What range is either case in? Remember that if you're turning an output yoke, the low range in a transfer case (or two cases here) works as an overdrive compared to the input side.

So if your 203/205 were both in high, it would likely spin as freely as an NP208.

If one or both cases were in low, then it took ~200% or ~400% more torque to spin the output at the same speed because you're making the input shaft spin ~2X or ~4X as fast.
