Those with Frame Off Builds

was hoping someone would recongnize that!

ERIC?

Ok, I threw up a few scattered pics of my builds in an album called "The Project" in my albums if you want to take a look. I had three Blazers going all at once one time, two 74's and one 76. You can see what I ended up with in the finished album. I bought my 76 for $4300. To give you an idea of how much you can spend once you get rolling and it snowballs, my total outlay at the end was over $37,000. I sold it to a lucky guy up north for $9k so the comments about buying somebody else's work does have some validity. I believe my buyer got an outstanding rig for a pretty good price.

Why did you sell it?

I understand it, but it just kinda feels "cheapened" not building it yourself..Stock is one thing, but buying someone else's custom work is just kinda ghey...

Hit the lottery, maybe not as much! :haha:

Why did you sell it?

To be honest, I've always been a Ford guy. I had a 90 Bronco that I tricked out. I sold it and searched for my all-time favorite wheeler, a 78 Bronco. Then my buddy, a Chevy guy, talked me into a Blazer. I ended up building 2 74's into one, selling them, and then building the 76. The entire time I drove it, I kept saying "I love this truck, if only it were the Bronco I had built though". As Chevy guys, I'm sure you understand.

I was a fool to sink so much money into a truck I ended up selling. Now I have started over on a 78 Ford F150 short bed. I liked my Blazer, but I love my Ford. I'm not a blind brand loyal kind of guy. Both products have their pro's and con's. I just prefer Ford over Chevy. The missus won't buy anything but Nissan so now we own 3 Fords, 2 Nissans and 1 Toyota.

Which brings me to my last piece of advice for somebody considering a frame off. Make damn sure you love the truck and you plan on keeping it for a while. If you are going to be needing a family or a commuter car later, you better have the money to own two vehicles. You don't want to sink big bucks into a rig and then have to sell it because it is no longer practical. Also, there is no way my 76 would have been a daily driver. High cool factor, very low comfort level.

Yeah, true to a degree but not everybody has the time and money to do the kinds of builds we are talking about, especially not yours Ryoken, you are a wild man. I know the kid that bought mine is probably wheeling the piss out of it and hopefully has pulled him into the black hole that is offroading. He brought a buddy with him who owned a Blazer and I guess some of his other friends do too. He was slobbering over mine so I am hoping it found a new home and is being used to its potential.
