Thoughts on changing from TBI to Carb? Mud Bog Runners Chime in!

Frog,

I knew you had bigger tires, but 38's! with 4:10's:eek: :yikes: dude, no wonder you got to have it floored! You need to get some serious gears in there first. Don't discount our 350 TBI's quite yet. Since I put my 4:10's in along with the chip tuning, I can walk around from my wife's V-8 T-Bird up to about 70 or so. Off the line, unless the pavement is totally dry, I can smoke the rear tires if I'm not careful.

Also, the hardware you are thinking about should make some good power, but you can really wake it up with a spot of chip tuning. Get yer stuff together and running, then get a prominator and stop by, I'll bet I can get even more out of it. :pimp:

Holley says 350 hp before the motor starts to starve with the holley tbi and a custom chip... I doubt you'll need much more power than that and if you get a really high tbi pressure to work at idle you probably be able to push 360.

The main reason Holly places a HP limit on thier TBI systems is because of tuning issues. Most people just don't have the knowledge to properly tune an engine with a large cam. I know I don't (yet!).:D

I go to www.thirdgen.org a lot, and there are quite a few folks over there pushing 400+ rwhp using highly tuned systems. If you want to learn chip tuning that is THE place to go. There are a few real gurus over there and they really know thier stuff. I'm still learning the basics (and man is there a LOT to learn). I've learned enough to take advantage of my Holley 670 and a free flowing exhaust, and can't wait until I put a nice low RPM torque cam and headers in.

actually the rating is 275 but thats without tuning.... when you call em they tell you 350 with tuning but sure if you bump psi and tune it for the higher psi then you can squeeze more than that but I would think 400 rwhp is undoable on a 2 bbl tbi. when i was at thirdgen i saw 400 at the flywheel but most said 375... never know tho.

Ya it could be my memory slipped a bit. I do remember the figure of just over 400 hp (410 or so). It could have been flywheel hp instead of rwhp. Hmmmmmm, may have to mosy over there and do a search in the next day or two.
