Thoughts on the 14SF?

So I have to ask , have any of you thought that maybe these could carry a little more oil?
I ask because I just installed one out of a '93 in my Jimmy. I'm probably over thinking it, but it just seems like the oil fill is kinda low on the housing.
I know old log truck drivers used to extend the fillers on their axles to carry more oil. I thought about using the spare cover and welding in a bung.

Sorry if this is TOO much of a high-jack.
Take the fill plug out and install a street el. Then put the plug in the top of that. I did that on my NV4500 to hold another 1/2 quart or so.

Yeah, that's how the loggers did it, I just thought I'd do something that didn't stick out to get caught on anything.

My son got a Bluetorch Fab cover on his 12 bolt. A cover like that with a fill plug would, but up higher is what I think of...

Yeah I put a blue torch cover on mine at that time. That was a few years ago and I know for a fact it's still getting beat with 40s on it. If I had a 14ff, I would not change to a SF, but if I had a 10b, I would absolutely change. And if I had a SF, I would not be afraid to keep it.

I did some research vis Rock Autos tech info. There is a 1/2" difference between the two.

Point it up and run a C/V driveshaft. With a short wheelbase, this is extra oil capacity. Of course, the front pinion bearing isn't really doing any better.

If that is a drum-in-disc brake you are actually way ahead on upgrade parts from the $100+ drums.

I knew that was mentioned on the site before, thanks for the info
