Thoughts on VW bringing back the Scout... as an EV?

Why not just buy the Rivian? Looks identical in the OP sketch but already has a lot of guinea pigs out there.

Goodness that is a lot of work just to make a turd. 5.0 Cummins may be one of the worst diesels ever, right up there with the 5.7 Olds.

Well. I could care less about the new scout… but, I had a number of early scout 80s - with the roof off and the windshield folded down, it was a lot of fun. No seat belts and a driver door that like to swing open during hard cornering!

I put the scouts down a long time ago, but have a lot of fond memories. At least a revival of the namesake brings some interest back to the origionals I saw a late 60s 800 pop up at the local car show a few weeks ago. The owner didn’t know a whole lot about them, but the guy that built it for him was there with him to show it off before it got on a boat to its new home in Hawaii.

Because they bought the semi truck brand International/Navistar and decided to try to buy into the EV market. Be better if they launched a diesel variation!

I'm probably in the minority, but I like the idea of the new Scout. Apparently it will even be a available with a front bench seat.

Personally, I hope GM never tries this though. It would just be disappointing. The original Blazer was based off the truck and Suburban of the same year. Nobody will want a new K5 that is based off of a pedestrian, soccer mom Tahoe. The new trucks are just too giant and modern looking. If a new K5 doesn't look like the same year truck or SUV, what's the point?

I should also say, I'm still very ticked off that the Suburban and Tahoe haven't looked like the trucks since '07. Damn, I just realized that I've been disappointed about that for nearly 20 years now :(

Vw is dieing a slow death.
In Europe it is rebadging fords as vw but it's fooling nobody.
People pay a premium for vw quality /badge. Not a ford. The previous galaxy /alhambra/sharan collaboration was a failure.
The strikes are unlike anything German workers normally would contemplate.
The transporter T7 (I'm renaming Transitporter, Jason statham-please use in future! ) will have the same wet belt engine failures.
Ive had various vw over 40 years and worked at dealerships. Nothing lately is doing it for me especially as parts and cars made everywhere not much in Germany.
Probably the golden age of vw was pre German reunification (pre 1991).
GM could do a retro version hopefully not EV, but most retro things are in fashion for about a year then unwanted.
