Three blown trannys and i need some help

sweet dude i know what ya mean about the color coded gears i just recently saw them and they were all mashed too hell my mechanic said he never saw anything like it the thing was totally stripped could it have been because of the stress of the large wheels with the stock gears? well thanks again for the info as soon as i regear im gonna tackle that one first off, our trucks are police magnets and the last thing i need is for my speed to screw me over!

Dafey,

Rather than try and explain it, I recommend you go to this link. It explains things pretty well and you can either use their tables to figure out what you need or use their math formula to figure it out:

I think their prices are pretty high as I just bought a new driven gear from my local Chevy dealer and it was less than $6.00 and no shipping charge.

The drive gear is on the rear output shaft of the transfer case and the driven gear meshes with it and it is held in the speedometer gear housing.

The drive gears only job in life is to turn the driven gear and the driven gear causes the speedometer cable's inner shaft to rotate with it. Tire size, axle ratio, horsepower, etc. should not affect their life.

hey thanks man just checked out the site and it looks really comprehensive! i think this will help out alot!

$27,000!!!!!!!!!!!!:yikes: for that you could have done a full resto with a big block, 4speed,205, and 1 tons..........................................:eek1: thats scary.......

over exaggerated on the parts cost but i will give it a try feel free to correct me if i miss judge prices

1. built 454,700r4,205 and 1 tons-----$6,000
2. full frame, body work and paint------$10,000
3. full interior with all power stuff-------$5,000
4. wheels and tires-----------------------$3,000
total-----$24,000

and i think i totaly over priced everything and included labor

or with how the economy is now you can almost get into an 07 2500hd 4x4 cc 6.0 for that price :deal:

dude where were you like 4 years ago man! i was young and worked like 60 hours a week so i had a pretty disposable income so i had no idea what i was getting into cost wise i thought that was just the way it was.

They are very simple to change. You remove the cable, pull the bolt holding the circle clip into place, then pull the driven gear housing out. Pop the new one in and reverse the process. Overall it should take about ten minutes to replace a driven gear.
