One left rear tow rig tire that looked like brand new and was checked and had 80 psi in it that morning (blew out)

Did it separate in the same way as the other one did?

No, it exploded.

I beleive the shaft bottomed out were checking the angles - i have seen this problem a few times - the angles and length of this shaft concern me and i wish we would have ran a limit strap i believe we would not be having this going on- Jesse

Congrats...it's sounds like you had fun.. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

AAH! we have to wait until march to read all about it, and to find out who won /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

I'll tell you who won, I don't care, it was a guy in a TJ jeep, I think it was brown.

2nd place was a CJ.

3rd was the Sammy.

What I will tell you guys if you ever go to RTC, there isn't a single event in it that there is any benefit to having a big, heavy truck. In Top Truck, the tow test and the tank trap seperate the men from the boys--That Samari wouldn't stand a chance in either with that tiny 4 cylinder and 35" tires, especially the tow test, acceleration test, etc. But in RTC, he had good gearing and hauled ass through everything, and in the mud he was so lightweight he just floated across the top and screamed right through.

So, unless it changes in the future, if you go to RTC, bring something small, lightweight, and nimble. RTC is WAY more high speed stuff than it looks in those pictures. Sure, you call it, "Rock Crawling" but if you realize that someone was holding a stop watch, and every minute someone was bitching at you to go faster and faster, it wasn't "crawling" at all. It was more like, "Rock racing" which is the reason that I don't think I'll ever do a competition again.

Don't get me wrong, I had a GREAT time. I just like going four wheeling slowly and at my pace, not against a stop watch with everyone bitching at you to go faster. Going faster doesn't do anything except trash parts and sheetmetal.

Professional rock crawling is done with a time limit (that you'll never hit) but points are given for stopping, backing up, etc. In these events, they'd said finesse would count for something, but the way the scoring is setup, being a throttle jockey is the only thing that will ever really help you with anything.

Guys, I talked to Jesse myself yesterday, and he's being really cool about this whole thing. Jesse is going to take care of me, don't worry about the fact that I broke his driveline.

As to the shaft bottoming out the CV, I have an angle finder now, and as to me bottoming it out, unless I'm not reading it correctly, I don't believe that to be the case. I'm going to be talking to Jesse some more tomorrow and we ?WILL get this straightened out.

Either way, Jesse has been totally cool about this entire thing. He has said basically in so many words that he wants me to feel 100% confident in his product and he's going to build me a shaft that will keep me from breaking a driveshaft ever again.

Basically, I am going to start trashing Dana 60 long before I ever break a driveshaft again, and Jesse will see to it.

Remember guys, my D60 still has 30 spline outers and hubs on it. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

so do you have any pics of the carnage? i wanna see a broken HAD shaft, never seen one before.

[/ QUOTE ]

I guess I could take some pics of what is left of it, we hacked it apart and put a yoke on it so I could compete Sunday and it looks just like any other broken CV shaft, just bigger.

a 28 degree operating is not going to work - so we will have to use a 42 degree c/v - and still possibly run a limit strap- Jess

Well guys, Jesse was right.

It's been operating at 28 degrees since I got it. It's a miracle that it lasted this long because that is the maximum working angle that this shaft it capable of.

Jesse is still going to replace the shaft to assure that I have confidence in his product. The replacement is going to have the 42 degree CV on the transfer case end and a 1410 on the pinion end.

I really don't know what to say guys. Jesse is the man. He will do anything to assure that we have confidence in his product no matter what.

He even offered me my money back but nobody is capable of building a driveshaft that will hold up in this application except Jesse so I am glad to take the free shaft from him.

Wow, that is beyond customer servive!

Yes and no.

This is both of our screwups. Both of us should have checked the angles so we knew exactly what we were working with. I told Jesse the angles sucked and cost was no object and I needed something that would hold up. He had thought the 1350 CV would be sufficient, but it simply was not capable of the angle that my front suspension was capable of putting it at.

Jesse assures me that he wants EVERYONE that owns his product to be 100% confident in the product he sells. Jesse truely is my hero, he spent 3 hours on the phone with me today and he assures me that this WILL work.

He has even offered me a credit, but nobody in this business builds driveshafts like Jesse, and I will trust nobody else's driveshaft on my rig.

Please guys, don't take this the wrong way. Yeah, I screwed up, and so did Jesse. The best angle finder I coudl find was $9 at home depot and could have solved this entire thing--I would have been glad to buy the 42* CV right off the bat.

Jesse really is my hero. I will NEVER hesitate to hammer down with his drivelines in my rig.

I'm going to pull the sled this year at the local show just to prove how tough his equipment is. Jesse has assured me that it will hold, and I believe him 100%.

Unless he measured it I wouldn't fault him. It's just like in shop, measure once cut twice /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Anyway, hope the breakage didn't spoil your fun. I'll be looking for you in the mailbox next summer.

The breakage ruined my entire weekend, but I still had a good time once I relaxed.

I never had any clue that driveshaft was at enough of an angle to destroy it. I'm not going to continue to beat a dead horse but you don't order a high angle driveline and think you'll bind it up and break it. I did, and I should have ordered the 42 degree CV to begin with, but Jesse didn't think it'd be necessary and neither did I, so I didn't, and that's where I'm at right now.
