im looking at the hobart 135 mig welder, anyone know if this is a good welder? or what wouyld be a good welder int he same price range?. ive always used my arc welder for all my welding needs, and now i am looking for something a little faster, since i will be doing alot of welding. thankis for all your input /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

What exactly will you be welding /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

You'll need to consider that the smaller rig may not give you the penetration that you need on the thicker metals. Also, make sure you can convert it over to true MIG and not be stuck with flux core... I hate flux core... Really...

I've always been a fan of Lincoln welders, and got my 110v MIG for a song on sale. It's done a great job, but it's time to upgrade to a 220v unit, mainly just for the thicker stuff I plan on doing...

I have a Hobart 135 myself.

Had it about a month now, put 5 pounds of wire or so through it so far. A great unit. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I LOVE my lincoln 135, I welds so nice and can weld up to 5/16 /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I just welded a piece of 1" plate with my Hobart 135.

My buddy has the lincoln 135 and I was using it as his house yesterday. Nice unit, and smaller than my Hobart, too.

IMO, it doesn't really matter anyway. Hobart is the same as Miller, and I've used my Hobart now and my buddy's Lincoln and it seems like the operator is far more important than the machine.

I'm not the greatest welder in the world but I've been getting a lot of practice lately and I'm getting a lot better. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

If you plan on doing a lot of heavier material I would purchase the largest welder you can.
The exp. I have had with welders is the more expensive , bigger is better
I have had the pleasure of using top of the line welders at some of my employers shops ($10 000 machines) and they rock. I know we will never have them in our garages but they do sell some pretty good home units
Just my .02 /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I love my dad's Lincoln 135 but love my Lincoln 175 more /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Got with 220V now and be done with it. It beats kickin yourself in the ass later cause you have to go buy a bigger welder. 220V will NOT disappoint.

All you bastards with the 175s make me wish I'd waited and got the 180 I wanted.

Got me Miller 251 a few months ago. I must say it fully rocks /forums/images/graemlins/pimp1.gif

how much did you pay for yours? my dad paid about 1200 for mine including gas, cart, gloves, and 2 helmuts... for that price I could have gotten a bigger welder.

but this 110 welder is okay... I just don't want to worry about penetration all the time. even getting thicker... /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

you have to worry with bigger ones too, mainly worry about burning through though.
