I know a lot goes into choosing the right camshaft and intake manifold combo, and I want to pick the best combo the first time around. I've done a lot of research and its all so unclear:confused:. One guy says this and another says this:dunno:. What I gathered though was that the complete vehicle package is whats important. So I am hoping someone here can help me. Heres what I'll be running. 1986 K5 Blazer, stock 350 engine, quadrajet carb from 77' chevy truck, no emission stuff, vacuum advance HEI dizzy, 37" tires, 4.56 gears, long tube headers, and super 44 mufflers. I will be using this to go back and forth to work from time to time (only a 3 mile drive), and using it a lot as a wheeler. Most of the stuff I will be using it on is sand hills and rock climbing, but will being doing other types of wheeling too. Any help you guys could give me would be great. I'm also open to changing my setup too. Thanks.

I didn't go to the camquest thing, but I would choose a mild cam with maybe ~215 degrees duration at .050 give or take. Also, I would step up to the performer RPM intake. The performer intake doesn't really do anything, numerous dyno sessions from all over the country have proved it really isn't much better than stock. Also, the performer RPM will sacrifice almost zero low end torque, yet have substantial gains in mid and upper RPM power.

If you really want some power then get some better heads. Heads and cam are where it's at, intake and headers just won't hold it back.

I just had to replace a Performer RPM with a Performer in order to pass smog, since the RPM doesnt have EGR. It was on the truck when I bought it, not sure how many miles are on it but its in OK shape. If you're interested, send me a PM.

PM sent!

That's a pretty old single pattern cam design, you can do a lot better these days. Look at the comp cams extreme series or the lunati voodoo series.

I finally decided on a cam, and it should be here this friday:woot:! After talking to my Uncle (who builds engines), and talking to a few here on the forum, I decided on the Lunati Voodoo. Heres a link to the cam specs.

I have a KMJ(off brand) 180 degree, dual plane, spread bore, none egr, aluminum intake coming this friday too. I also have a 62K Volt HEI Dizzy coming. I also picked up a set of long tube headers off my junk blazer that I'm cleaning up right now. I'm hoping that I will get my 70's model Rebuilt Q-Jet back this weekend. If I get all the parts in by friday, I will hopefully have the engine going this weekend.

I finally got the front axle out from under the K5. I am in the process of cleaning up my doner k5 axle with seals, calipers, pads, rotors, paint, and brake lines, so I can throw it under my good K5.
