So months ago I bought a jvc cd player and 6x9s off the walmart discount rack and need to install them and send the stock am/fm to the scrap pile. Is it worth putting speakers in the dash? I plan on boxes for behind the seat for the 6x9s. Since I have no a/c yet so I am hoping for it to be loud enough to overcome the wind and my deafness.

I put new speakers in the dash of one of my burbs. The thing to do with those is put an in line bass blocker with em. Otherwise the bass signal will kill em quick. My .02. I liked them in there. My 6x9s handled the mids and bass and the dash speakers did the highs. It was good for a truck system

Yes. It will sound much better. Also, if you have a decent deck, you can kill the bass to the front speakers in the deck.

A capacitor can be used to block bass frequencies from reaching the speakers...wired in-line with the speaker + wire...(If my book on how to build your own speaker enclosures was handy I could post the rating you'll need, but its out in my garage at the moment)...

Dont be too hasty to toss the OEM radio if it still works,I have sold quite a few at swap meets to owners wanting to retain "originality"...not for a lot of cash, but 15-25 bucks is better than nothin!...I still have an original GM am/fm/CB in dash stereo, still works but one channel wont play,it probably needs an output transistor...they were pretty popular back in the late 70's and early 80's...I have considered putting it in one of my trucks, the one with no CD player ..

Someone had a stock radio on Craigslist the other day out of a 77 for 500. I figure at that price, Im rich boys  Im sitting on a gold mine! Just gotta figure out who would actually buy it and see if they need some factory blinker fluid!

I ordered some cheap speakers from Crutchfield. Hope they are here by Saturday.

Are you going to re-dyno with your sweet new air cleaner mod???

No, I am thinking I need to go ahead and braze the bottoms since it was just tacked too the top.

cause why? It seems the pictures I do take end up in places I don't want them too.
