Vice time. Looking for the diamond in the cheap section shall we say. Broke mine yesterday might attempt to fix it.

Whats a good vice say under 150 what have you had success with.

Got a buddy looking at auctions to me but people are nuts. Some older Wilton that was actually broken went for 150. Anything that is older or is a well known brand and looks useable is getting the 300+ range

I have a 6" Master Force. It was like $85 or so at farm n fleet. not real bad but does feel spongy when I tighten it. like the cast is flexing:dunno: its done all the jobs I wanted it too and isn't broken. but I wouldn't do it again myself.

My boss has a few old "Columbian" Vises.... :D
I'm sure he'd be willing to part with one.
They need a little tlc, like paint, but otherwise are great vises.

Shipping would prolly be a mofo.
But may be worth it.

Record made a great vice in England for that price. Not sure is they if they still do, I heard they are Chinese now. Columbian made some great vices (and some cheapos, too). I know they still do, but they are expensive. Cincinnati Tool made quality machinist vices.

I've got a Record and have beat on it hard, with no problems. It's about 10 years old and made in England.

That sucks breaking a vise. I broke one a while ago too and will repair it when I have time. But thank goodness I still have my main vise thats pretty damn heavy duty so no worry about breaking it. But it wasn't mounted for a few months for table space and it was not in a good location for how I had the welding table sitting.

When I broke the other and didn't have a vise mounted at all, it sucked big time. Had to use the mill vises. For what I was doing it was fine, not beaing on anything. Won't do that on a mill vise ever. But I sure hate having just one work bench vice. I like having several for different uses and needs. I have about 11 vises, some identical and most are for different things, but only two are bench/utility vises for general use and abuse. All the others are precision vises for machining. Now we need a vise thread with pics of vises. Lats make this one that thread, what do you think?

So basically, to sum up, you're saying you have a vise vice? :haha:

I bought a brand new Wilton machinist vice on ebay for $200 shipped. It is actually a Wilton made for Snap-on.

I aquired a 8" Wilton swivel base with pipe vise $FREE.99, only cost 60 to ship it home!!!

I thought it was badass until my pops showed me the Yost he got off an M88A2, makes the one I have look like a fly tying vise.

I bought a 6in Columbian from a flea market for $85ish. Googled it when I got home and its a $700+ vice new and Id bet the new one isnt as good.

Do yourself a favor and buy old and used!

Buy an old craftsman but make sure it's a made in the USA one. My buddy bought the little one for 10 bucks and the big 5" jaw one for 45
