timing chain gear question

When The timing dots on the cam and crank are at 6 and 12 o'clock, does this mean that #1 cyclinder is at TDC of the compression stroke and the rotor should be in position to fire on #1?
 
You know, I'm pretty sure that actually it puts #6 at tdc. I believe that to have both dots at 12 is #1 tdc.
 
You need to have the points both at 12 when you stab the dist or you will be 180 out.
