Timing tab mounting SB 350

I am not exactly sure what year block 350 I have but it doesn't have a timing tab on the motor. I picked one up today at Oreilly's for a SBC 350 w/ 8" balancer (which I have) but I can't figure out how to mount it. It looks like it would go to the holes where the two red arrows are but the way I see it the holes I mount to should be horizontal.

It bolts to the timing cover. On the drivers side, just below the water pump. I'll see if I can find a pic.
