Bringing this back up- gotta find some tires for the blazer asap- probably before the end of the year

Been out of the market for a while- lookin to rant a little, and for some advice. 35x12.50 R15

So, for the last 5-6 years I was rockin a set of BIG O Bigfoot extreme all terrains. Last November I blew a sidewall in Death Valley and the tires are no longer avail. They were OK, but were a little on the large size- had some rubbing on the front of the blazer - never had issues prior to that when I had BFG tires and Bridgestones.

I thought I was going to go back to BFG all terrain? Last week a last minute wheeling trip got planned- I bought the only 35x12.50 R15 BFG all terrain in the high desert… went out for an all day slog through mining trails on 3 big o tires and the one new BFG…

Anyway- hit the trail head, Aired down to about 18-19psi all the way around, and took off down the dirt road. Made it 25 min before I hooked a mystery rock. Doing about 30mph I somehow caught the edge of the rim just right- peeled the rim up and popped the bead. Immediate flat with the brand new BFG. Luckily I was able to spend a few min hammering the steel rim into shape and got it to hold air. I was able to finish the day on that tire/wheel, but this has made me curious about a few things.
I used to have BFG all terrain KO.always liked those tires.
The new tire I bought is the KO2… WHY DID THEY GET RID OF THE RIM SAVER?! I didn’t even notice when I bought it, but they got rid of the rim saver?! The lip of my steel wheel sticks out now- worse than the big o tires that I had, and probably played apart in my ridiculous flat tire/damaged wheel.

Now I’m not sure I want to follow through and spend 1400 bucks on 4 more of those BFG all terrains?

I would rather not repeat the house brand tires like the big o tires, and end up in the same position where I’m replacing 4-5 tires all at once because I cannot get a replacement for one tire in couple years.

Anyone have suggestions for some other tires to look at?

I just recently put two Milestar Patagonia MT 02 on my buggy, Did 200 miles of trails in the Mohave last weekend, did great I up sized from 265 75 r15 to a 33 12.50r15

I wanted a tough side wall, my last 2 outings 1 in buggy and 1 in burb I lost a tire to side wall splits, no rim damage for either. It was either these or Mickey Thompson Baja Boss M/T which were $60 more ea.

Same wheels but brand new bfg KO2 all terrain (gm origional plane Jane ralleye wheels)

And for what it’s worth I just had eyes on a KO3, and it also does not have the rim saver.

Nitro and general grabber had the rimsaver, and I was told neither are available in a 15inch rim.

Anyway- wouldn’t be a deal breaker if BFG prices hadn’t have gone up so much in price lately-

I just got quoted a set of 4 Mickey Thompson newfangled aggressive all terrain and it was 50 bucks less than I can get the BFG from Costco?

That looks like a good buggy tire! Lots of sidewall traction for the sand

Was in some very soft silty stuff and no worries about slowing or stopping on it

General Tire for the win. I've run them on multiple Superduty trucks and my 77 K5 and ALL of the trucks were beat on hard. Add tons of pavement miles plus towing a fifth wheel and the K5. Out of 20 or so tires and hard desert miles I got 1 flat from a big ass stick thru the sidewall. Left it in and still made it home. I do have about 15k on a set of BFG A/T old pattern. Light desert duty and pavement/towing I'm happy so far. YMMV

I put a set of the Milestar Patagonia MT 02’s on my parents Suburban last summer. 33x12.50-15’s . We took it to Sand Hollow, Moab and a few trails around Colorado and a snow run and so far really like them. I didn’t want to spend a lot on tires since it sits more than it’s driven.

General Grabber 37 12.5 17 has rim guard.

dang- no rim protector on the 35x12.50 R15

Not a deal breaker if they can be had for less $$ than the BFG all terrain.

2 ply is the norm the 3 ply side wall is stronger. If you get E rate load the side wall will be stiffer. Then there is the 10 and 14 ply medium duty truck tires, not good for off or even on road ride.

I did a bunch of searching and reading last year before I bought the Milestars and everyone seemed to like them.
