I am not sure but maybe try calling Rusty's 4x4 if they can't help you they might know some one who can. They are probably the oldest 4x4 shop in the rogue valley. So you live in talent? I just moved from there i use to live next to Tark's market.

that's funny. i live about a mile from there down talent avenue a bit before rapp road. napa has extra links so i can lengthen it myself. :wink1:

see previous post. :wink1: didn't realize i could do that till after i'd posted this thread. :D

ok, so i finally lengthened my chains today. was able to lengthen them from fitting a 35" tire to fitting my current 38" TSL's. Total cost was about $13. I used my bench vise, a hammer, pliers and my welder to get the job done. good little one or two hour project. got the extra chain at Napa, but you could probably get the right stuff at Home Depot or elsewhere. Apparently they make a tool for repairing tire chains, but I just used what i Had on hand and it was easy enough. ;)

Ah, I've got a set of chains that are a little small. I didn't realize i could lengthen them. Thanks!

I wonder if chains are a lot better than M+S rated tires for snow?

I just did the same thing after realizing my 2nd set of chains were too small for my truck. It's very easy to extend a set of chains, and cheap too. I may have paid $10 or so for the chain and connecting links from our local hardware store.

Depends on what you're driving in -- I assume you're going Tahoe way, or maybe somewhere way east?

Knew some folks who lived in Tahoe area, and IIRC the CHP has four categories of snow/crappy weather up there.

One is where anybody can drive, i.e. the summer. Next there's chains required unless you have M+S tires, and then chains required unless you have 4WD and snow tires. And then there's the storms that no sane people should be driving in, where the locals go out in their shorts and t-shirts and do donuts in the snow shouting "yeeeehaw!" :haha:

Anyway, by the time you need chains on your Blazer, ask yourself ... do I really need to be driving in this? (Now, if you're trying to get HOME from up in the mountains or something I'd understand!)

And sure, chains are gonna get you better traction. Donno about ride quality or top speed though =))

It's more for "insurance" to be able to get over 50 or 80 heading up to Reno through Tahoe. We usually stay in Reno at night and party and then head to the hills to snowboard during the day. I've got the M+S tires that are supposed to be rated for snow now was considering whether I could sell my chains, or fix them if there's a benefit to keeping them.

I've been up there a few times where I the CHP won't let you through without chains, but I plan to stay on the highway. You're right, I don't want to be anywhere around there when I'd need chains AND 4WD.

Hell thats when it starts getting fun!!! :D:D

I've never chained ll four usually I just through them on the front and that got me through everything I ever tried

I live in the boondocks where the plows don't come.. when you need to get out of the driveway, you chain up. Of course we also take the chains off at the next clear pull out on the main road.. unlike the dumb fockers that are running around right now on the clear highway with chains :doah:

I'm also one of the crazy guys that runs up and down the mountain when the weather comes.. mostly try to make sure people aren't stuck walking home up the hill. Though right now I have no 4wd :doah:When I came off the hill a week ago there were a dozen cars in the big turn around..

If I know I am going to be driving for a long time in snow at slow speeds I chain up regardless, better to chain up when your not on the side of the road worried about some focker hitting you, and chains are easier to take off then put on.
