Ok heres the deal. Recently picked up a d60 and I want to go big. Diggin the boggers and contemplating the 38.5x15w or the 39.5x18w. I am doing cross over and hydro-assist.

I want to go 39.5 but concerned about the the width and road manners. Realisticaly this will b an all purpose rig that will see more road miles than trails. I want to b able to drive a few freeway hrs at a time. For the Cali folks I'm just outside the bay area and talkin bout a road trip to Pismo and the snow(Reno/Tahoe) area once a yr. Would even love to do Blaser Bash soon. I'm thinkin the smaller would b more practicable. What are the opinions from folks w/experience here. Thanks..

Boggers SUCK on road. They don't last long either.

For an all purpose rig I would be looking at 40" radial type tires pro comps, wranglers, Yokohama's ,BFG, interco radial offerings, maxxis, pit bulls etc.

Boggers are pretty much the worst on road tires you can get

I agree w/the radial type as I am currently running 36" tsl radials but didn't see any options with maxxis pit bulls, interco, or procomps but I will check again.

I can deal w/the road noise and wear more concerned about handling. With my 36" tsl radials n stock steering I can cruise at 75-80 w/no vib issues. Obviosly w/bigger tires I wouldn't expect to cruise at that speed.

I'd stick w/ the 37-38" tire sizes. A little less strain on components at highway speeds and quite a bit less $$. And like blazin said, any of the modern radial mud tires would be a better option than boggers.

Another vote for 40 inch radials. Youll be hard pressed to find a better tire. I chose procomps (maxxis). Awesome tires and ive beat them pretty well, from 8 psi rock crawling to 70mph on the freeway.

@4wheelinfury is a perfect guy to add to the convo as he just went from 38ish to pro comp 40s as well.

I just did a 1200 mile trip through Baja on the pro comp 40's. I am a firm believer if you set your truck up correctly (alignment, brakes, steering) then you can have the best of both worlds. I am planning on driving my truck out to blazer bash this year from Santa Barbara

I have about 2000 miles on my toyo 40s on 17s. Road manners are awsome and only slight tire shake if I get close to 75 mph (no balancing at all).

@digity is it the wide size your stuck on?

If so look at normal swampers and pit bull rockers. Those are wide and will take road driving lots better than boggers.

I have daily driven swampers in a 39.5 it wasnt bad. But there are things you gotta put up with. I have also done quite a few road miles with those 38" boggers. They weren't as bad as the 39.5s I have been around but still not a tire I would want to put up with if I were logging many road miles

Anyone have opinions on 40" nitto mud terrains or toyo open country MT? Sorry to keep asking these tire questions but these bigger sizes r a lot of coin.

You cant lose no matter which of the big three you listed. My opinion after seeing all three in use is there very similar. Nitto and toyo often go on back order so that's a drawback.
