i have '79 1 ton with D60, 14bbt, np205,sm465, 350sbc. i currently have 38/15/16.5's super swamper tsl bias. i am thinking or boggers or rockers because the tsl's dont have the greatest traction i.e. gravel wet grass etc. i havent had them offroad alot due to building it up. any suggestions on tires and who is running them? will maybe go with others.

i have 38's with 4.10s. i want lower gears so im thinkin 4.56's or 4.88s. i think 5.13s are a little low. i will eventually go to bigger tires so yeh. also what brand of gears and thinkin detroit in rear and wat for the front. i want a locker.

I have a similar set up and I like my bias TSL's so I have no advice there but for both front and rear lockers I would go with Detroits.

rockers

yeh tsl's aretn bad but thinkin maybe pitbull rockers, anyone run them here? also gear suggestions anyone 4.56,4.88,5.13 any ideas need somethin more thatn 4.10s

If you are going with a larger tire later I would put 5.13s in now. As for tires I cant help you any I plan on running 42X14X15 Iroks for my rig when the time comes for new tires. And Def detroits for lockers. If you are not going to see much street driving I would weld the rear but for lockers detroits are the way to go.

how do they run

alright guys here it is i am gonna run another set of 38's most likely pitbuls, bogger,or tsl's. lockers are gonna be detroits. now for gear ratios. im leaning towards 4.88's or 5.13's. maybe 4.56 if i can be convinced this is whta i want to kno. who runs them and how do they run. i see more md than rocks so gotta be able to spin em good. want good power and good torque too. biggest tires ill ever go is 42's

just like thay say with lifts go big or go home. go deep with gears or go home.

all the time and money and you only want 4.56 from 4.10s. thats a wast. you wont even feel much if anything. just go the 5.13 gears and be done with it. then you can also eat rice rides on the street.

you have a 4spd....6.55 is plenty gear. lot of people run 4spd with 4.10s and 38's. if its going to be street driven keep that or go to 4.56. if its not going to be street driven then get 5.13's. 4.88 seems to be people who cant decide 4.56 or 5.13 and they always wish they had gone with either of the other two

Auto trans I would go 5.13, but you got a stick.
Run the gearing thru a calculator and find your best RPM range you want. Small blocks typ like to be run around 2000-2500 RPM cruising, unless you built the engine for a different RPM range.

gears

according to randy's ring and pinion calculater with 5.13's 38's and a 1.00 final trans at 60mph id be turnin 2722 rpm's. with 4.88's and 38's at 60 mph id be turnin 2589 rpm's. what they suggest for rpm range @60 mph for a small block is 1800-2800. i have a 4.3 s10 blazer and its turns up to 3 no porblems. so i dont think that the 5.13s will kill me too bad?

5.13s no doubt, you can just be a bit slower on the highway for the time being.

I thought the pitbulls rockers didn't come in a 38 yet.

ME TOO! :D

I have 4.56's and 40" MT/R's. I get 14mpg on the highway :woot:and like someone else said the 6.55 low gear is enough gear...especially for mud.

And to what someone else said about not even noticing going from 4.10's to 4.56's...I did just that in my truck. It made the difference from HAVING to use Low to get the truck going at a green light (without abusing the cluctch) to starting off in 1 like you should for regular street driving.

I see you're in pennsylvania...If this is your daily driver I would not go to 5.13's...unless you just drive around your little town and the trails are right down the street. My personal suggestioin is 4.88's if this is a truck you will have to get on the highway.

On a sidenote the fastest I've ever driven (I was not in my truck :haha:) was on the PA TPK...130 m.p.h. and if there was someone going 50 m.p.h in front of me because they realized they should keep they're 350 at a reasonable RPM....I dunno what would have happened :doah:.
