OK so if we're still here next week it is time to start on tires and in the movie they were Wrangler MT 33 x 12.50 R15 LT tires.

Goodyear makes the Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar now and the Wrangler Dura Trac.

Ok so I am trying to decide on which tire to use on the build. The MT/R is tougher but the Dura Trac looks closer to the original MT.

So what do you guys think and why would you choose the one you like?

MT's are a different tread than those pics you showed. MT's are a directional tire. Not sure if you can still get them now anymore. I have a bunch of them but they're all 16.5" wheel size as they came off of Hummers.

That old Goodyear looks just like all the 37" Military Hummer Goodyears on the market. But, there's not 35" version still available.

Probably the closest tire in looks that is available today is the Dunlop Mud Rover.

Well, it's not my truck, but both the Duratrac and the Hankook MT both have a lot of sidewall tread, which the older Wrangler does not.
 
I love the Dura Trac and have used them on several vehicles, if they made them in a 35x15 I would be rocking them now.
 
Assuming you are mostly worried about replicating the look, then maybe the Yokohama Geolander MT as it is a very similar directional tread

However I do notice the newer "plus" models have more sidewall tread than the old ones (which seems to be the trend).

The old Goodyear MT's with directional tread that the movie truck had, and the Hummer versions, haven't been made in a long time. Don't think civilians versions have been around since about 2000 when the first generation MT/R's were introduced, and the military Hummer versions in one size stayed around for several more years.
 
Working on something already. Leaning to the Dura Trac.
 
OK so the p235/75 R15 are smaller than the 31x10.5 R15LT

So I know it has been posted but how much larger can I go with out rub or cutting?
 
32x11.50, 33x10.50 should fit.

I've seen the odd truck that will roll 33x12.5's with no cutting.
 
The movie had 33's and I am guessing 3 inches of lift. I am going to do a 1 inch body lift later. When I have money to pay some one to do it.
 
Are your body mounts bad? If not, it can be a lot of work getting those rear carriage bolts out, especially if they have rusted into the sleeves. Also, I think considering how concerned you are with cosmetics of the build you will not like where the bumpers end up.
 
In the rust states....... out here my 1988 looks new under it and the they should be ok. The body lift is easiest no drive line work to do.
 
You won't need any drive line work with a 3 inch as long as you keep the axles in the stock locations.
