Tires sizes vs capability

You shouldn't have any rubbing problems with 4" and 33's.

I have, there's been a couple times the tire has managed to wad up the lower fender. That was with a sway bar and a relatively narrow rim too. It flexes well I guess.

It's going to come down to wheel width and back spacing. Don't skinny wheels usually make the tire taller?

16x8 wheel, with good backspacing. When the tires were new, they measured at 33" pretty much exactly. They aren't really skinny, my point was just that it wasn't like a 10" or 12" wide wheel that sticks out.

Good combo. I'll be running 15x10 with 33 s and I think 3.75 back spacing. I'll let you know about rubbing when i lift it lol.

I had no lift and 33s, didn't rub, very capable. Only problem I really run into is other people's tire ruts, and the diffs dragging because of it. Didn't rub or stuff, but I did have the swaybar on, it's coming off, so I'll see what changes, and I'll also be using a different set of 33s.

I had 33's on a stock 89 K5 and could have fixed the minor rubbing it had with either 10 minutes and a grinder or narrower 33's.
Was nice because it drove like stock.

It sounds like you've got the right size for your plans for the truck.

A lot of people fall into the trap of getting way more lift and tire than they need for how the truck spends the majority of its time, and they wind up with all the compromises of a big lift and big tires while seldom getting to use the benefits. I find 33's and a 4 inch lift plenty, but I'm not a hardcore wheeler either. It seems to be the best compromise between day-to-day functionality and capability.

Yep I completely agree.. Just because it looks cool doesn't mean it's gonna work

I remember putting the 38's on my 1 ton. I loved them.

Then when I realized how much bigger it was, how heavy the tires were, how hard it would be to replace them, that I lost a bit of mpg, and on and on and on...pretty sure I'll never go that big again.

I think 35s are that perfect- look awesome, good height for playing, not too big for every day driving. With my new rear axle on the black of the blazer with bald 35 rollers, they look sooooo nice, but I can't run 35s yet, so it'll back to 33s for now. But I agree 33s are an adequate size for playing, and very street-able. I think I'm just used to seeing them, so they don't look any kind of big to me.

That's because they really aren't very tall. My wife got a flat the other day and when the original sized spare was put on (235/85) I realized it was nearly as tall as the 33's. It was just really narrow of course. The size difference wasn't even enough to screw with the Gov Loc.

It really is a nice package. With a lift and 33's, you get the look of a big giant lifted truck, a lot of off-pavement capability, and the road manners of a stock truck.

2" or 3" lift, not sure and 33's, works great bouncing around the desert.

it is funny how capable we want our trucks..

years ago.. like 1990... I rode with people with 36 / 38 /44's and stiff ass suspension...

I had 3" BL and 33's... automatic turbo 400 with stage 2 shift kit.... 3:73's.... d44 front... 14bolt ff rear and open axles..

I WHEELED THE PIZZAZ outta this truck... never had an issue... had fun doing it.. was it truely fully capable??? no...
but ran great..

yeah now running 6" lift, 40" hawgs, detroits around, 1 tons, xover steer... it is MORE capable.. but how much more???

I've decided against 35" tires after putting on my 4" lift. I don't want to re-gear...don't want big drop off in MPG, and the extra penalties when to be honest like most people I'll drive %90 of the time on the street. 33" is plenty fine off road, and hardcore off road would require alot of other mods anyways I don't feel I need to spend that $$ on. If one was building a dedicated rock crawler I can see going bigger, but again alot more to a build than just tires then.

my 2013 came stock with 35's... :woot: Z-92 package from ALC (american luxury coach)

they kept the stock 3.42 gears...
now she aint no racer but I drive 62 miles each way (from south NJ to central NJ) and I have learned to find the sweet spots for 1/2 the cylinders to shutdown and this truck is getting what my stock z-71 was getting...
winter time she dont want to shift to OD much so getting 15mpg-17mpg but when it warms up like today... I get around 18-20mpg...

in 4h may be good for local trail riding but 4L still has plenty of gonads to spin the 35's... while I liked my 33's I will always run 35's even if that means cutting up the fenders to make them fit... :pimp:
