TJ's tire thread

My original plan was 37s but I went down that rabbit hole on my Jeep before and it snowballs quick after 35s….I’m saving up for crossover on the truck so I compromised with 35s…..big enough to be dangerous but small enough to steer and stop.
I stay mostly street, like 98% of the time. 35's should work quit well for that and be enough to do something if I ever meet anyone in Arizona to go wheel with in the east valley AZ desert.

Get some white spoke 15"x8" wheels. A lot less than $600, and look a lot better.

The grinding on a Dana 44 is pretty light.

And will the back space hit the rear drums or anything? Back spacing confuses me no matter how many times I google The tires are far more affordable in this size range.

Who made this a thread? I didn't notice right away...yeah I know, I post too many questions. It's my day off and the family is gone, so I had hours to kill. What better way to drain my phone battery and my day other than looking at wheel/tire combos

Anyway. The 15x8 is growing on me. I like the look, more of a classic feel.

White black or chrome. I like the black and chrome best. White will look odd I think
Which back space is best?

The less the backspace the more the wheel will stick out, 2.5 is going to stick wayyyyyyy out….I’d shoot for 4 or 3.75. 15s will fit 14 bolt drums yes

15x8s will baloon the tire more (my personal preference) a 10” wheel will obviously be less ballooned, 10” wheel will stick out 1” further from the wheelwell than an 8” assuming both have a 0 degree offset….really comes down to how you want the tire/wheel to look….most tires have a measured rim width which is the wheel size they measure the diameter on (so a 35 may measure slightly bigger on an 8” wheel because the wheel balloons it out more ) which can be found in the specs of the tire you’re looking at

So,
15x8 chrome with 4.0 backspacing on 35x12.5x15 Cooper Evolution MT?

I'll sell my old set up and recoup some $$, hopefully.

Since you are going 15" you want the least backspace for the least grinding.
And Since you already cleared 37" tires, having the wheel stick out a bit more will not be a problem.
I would go 2.5" BS but if you don't want too far out, go 3.25 or 3.5"

I didn't see any wheel in this style with that back spacing it was only 2.5 or 4 BS with 15x8wheel

I can always add a 1/8-1/4 or so spacer

Haha @TJ1978 you created a new thread. Be sure to check the max weight on those rims. I've seen some 8lug 15's that we're only good for 1500lbs a piece.
Unfortunately, 15" 8lugs are few and far between anymore

I was browsing back to the early years of this site. And some old posts day that with 4.0 back spacing a lot of caliper shaving is needed and that can possibly compromise the brakes? And that 3.5 back spacing is ideal, well you'll have to shave less.

But I can't find 15x8 8 lug wheels with 3.5 back spacing. Maybe 15x10 has that back spacing.

How far out will 2.5 back spacing be. Or will an 1/8 spacer help with 4.0 back spacing?

The wheels in my cart are rated at 1500lbs... um is this spiraling out control and I'll just end up keeping what I have?

4” with a 12.50 tire puts the tire even with the edge of the fender, 2.5 would have about 1.5” more tire sticking out6B8AA9A8-2F72-4E4A-ADBD-B8C37CE69AEC.jpeg
This is a 33x12.50 with 4” backspace

Personally, I think you're going to hate going down to a 35. 35's measure more like 33.5-34 inches, so you're going to be losing 2 more inches. Plus, your truck looks more like a 6 inch lift.

If it were me and you wanted to change to a mud terrain, I would see if anyone on Marketplace or something wants to do the opposite of what you want to do- trade their mud terrains for all terrains. That's just my .02..... I've never known anyone to be happy going down in tire size.

True. I measured the 37's yesterday and with the weight on them, air they're at about 35.5 ish...

I measured my lift and sent that info to ORD and they said it's a 4" lift. I swear it's more or at least looks it but.... I ordered shocks and springs based 4" and it seems ok. My fenders are hacked pretty good as well.

Yes, you may be right and this "idea" is spiraling out of control. A set of mud terrain tires is more expensive than getting 35's and 15x8 wheels. Hahaha.
Maybe my best bet is to just wait, and get some mud terrain 37's.
