to all engine builders out there I need your help

isn't 049 and 781 older heads that do not have hardened seat for unleaded gas? World Products has a set of large oval heads, which are 049/781 heads basicly, which are reasonbly priced.

73" and newer should have hardened inducted seats but pre 73 there more than likely not unless they've been worked.

Local engine builder told me that they are more like 120-ish...bump the compression, mild cam, good carb and intake, install, enjoy!!!!

For every .0065 milled off that loses 1cc. Most can mill up to .030 to .040, so for every 1cc change its .10 in compression change....so it's kinda a big deal to know if your shooting for a specific ratio

I would suggest a fuel injection system because of ease of use and more consistent power and fuel economy compared to a carburetor.
FiTech Go EFI 4 600HP Self-Tuning Fuel Injection Systems 30002
This is the system I am using on My 350. You can get one cheaper then this one that costs about the same as most 750 carbs and so much easier to use and can be used on your 454 as well. Easy to adjust for however you build your engine.

The truck that the motor came out of had tbi. Stock tbi is crap and limited on hp. Plus I just want something simple for now. I found some saying the have some 71 covette heads. Casting# 3993820. How good are these? I just missed on a 049 set.

It looks like the port numbers are very close to the 781's/049's, but the combustion chamber of the 781's/049's are more open than the 820 heads....

evidently that configuration of the intake valve unshrouding in the 781's and 049's helps alot especially with 2.19's and 1.88's in there.

Hi guys. I am really in need of some direction. I have a 454 out of a chevy 1 ton. It has tbi and i am ditching all of that. Block casting number is 10068286 which i have for to correspond to a 1990 mark IV short deck 4 bolt main block. Head casting number is 14092360. I believe they are F229 and are the peanut heads everyone likes to trash talk online. Intake casting is 10052952.

So now on what I would like to do. I want to open up this motor with doing heads, cam, intake, headers. I want to go back to carb for simplicity for now. smog is not an issue. I would like to raise compression with heads to 9:1 or somewhere around that if possible. I was think afr heads with a air gap intake. I just really want 4000 to 500 hp with lots of torque on the low to mid range. Redline should be around 5500. I really just neew help on picking out the right parts to accomplish this as all the research i have done says that you really need to get these components that will work with each other or its like throwing money down the drain.

Any direction will be much appericated

Robert
I'd call Northern Auto Parts in Sioux City Iowa. They can fix you up. They gave me all tye parts I would need to do a 383 short block for $650 These were mostly speed pro parts.
